Parking brake is self-adjusting (assuming the mechanism is working correctly) Correct way to set it is to pull the handle with the brake pedal pushed down already.

Those images are what I have thanks again
one thing I forgot to ask should the handbrake cables be connected to the handbrake levers on the brake calipers when adjusting or disconnected
Cheers🍻👍

Next time you park in your driveway, try this:
Put the transmission in neutral. Press firmly (with your foot) on the main brake pedal and hold it down.
Pull firmly on the handbrake lever to set it, then release the hand lever so it goes back down.
Slowly release your foot from the main brake and see if the handbrake holds the car.
As RUU said, you should be setting the handbrake while the main brake is applied, then release the main brake.
