Default Replica Chrome ZR1 wheels Quality?

I've been considering these Chrome ZR1 wheels, has anyone bought these and what kind of quality do they have, has the chrome held up?

FWIW - I had a set of AFS, ZR-1 chrome repros. from a structural standpoint, a fairly decent wheel. they were on a DD, and had average care - not pampered by any means. I found the chrome was thin, not sure it was triple plating, or anything, and in my case, the chrome did not hold up. the chrome on the inner barrels of the wheels actually flaked off, and I had pitting on the outer wheel surface. again, most likely I did not take the best of care with these wheels. in most cases, these repros are fairly inexpensive, and most likely cheap plating. I know guys with chrome repros on "fair weather" cruisers, and the chrome seems to hold up quite well. these wheels most likely lead a pampered life. my suggestion - if you get them, keep them clean and waxed - once the chrome is compromised, there's no turning back.

I have chrome ZR1 wheels. I usually wax them once a year but my car is not a daily driver and is always garaged and is always clean. I do not use it in the rain. I have had the wheels for many years. I always clean the brake dust off of them. They still look great

with both of the posts above. If the wheels are going to be subjected to a lot of exposure the chrome is not going to hold up.

I am sporting a set of Chinese knock-off, A-molds that I bought used 5 yeas ago. The chrome - where it shows - looks great; no problems. However, the inner wheel shed the chrome like the skin off a snake. As long as it stops there, it will be no problem.

I use the Bling Industries metal polish - which is a quantum LEAP above anything else I've ever used, far as results AND protection/durability. A nano-tech product; really amazing stuff.

I see a lot of wheels they list PVD Chrome, sounds like a powder coating type of process, has anyone used wheels with PVD Chrome? I previously had a Pontiac G6 Coupe it had Chrome wheels, but the appeared to be a chromed plastic overlay over the aluminum wheel. It was a different color of chrome than good old fashioned , Copper, Nickle, Chrome plating. My other thought was to have my original 94 wheels chromed. My self being a gray haired man at least whats left of my hair, I prefer chrome.

Default 94 with chromed sawtooths

Original owner had them chromed in 94. They still look good after 22 years although she has always been garaged and only has 31000 miles. I use chrome polish once a year.

Richard, that is a gorgeous car, I love the chrome wheels. Mine is a 94 Polo Green with the tan interior and 37k miles, it is garage kept always, but I do plan on driving more than my brother drove it when he had it. Are there places that will still do real chrome on my original wheels?

I had chrome powder coated, original speedlines on my 2004 Z06. could not tell the difference, and maintenance on those wheels was next to nothing. I owned that car for four years, and besides normal washing I pretty much just gave them a coat of synthetic polish/wax once a year. best chrome finish of any wheels I've had. about the only difference between powder coat chrome and standard metal chrome was the powder coat chrome has a slightly darker appearance if sitting side by side - kind of looked like smoked chrome.

Joe: My all time favorite, fixed roof coupe, for me the one I really like the most. See yours is a Z06, did they make a Z06 with an automatic, know the 99 and 2000 FRC only came with a manual transmissions.

One thing I might add is that mine was always a "southern" car-no salt!
Thanks for the compliment. Chrome platers are probably harder to find because of environmental rules and regulations. I like your polo green but you have to take what you can find sometimes!

Hi

I have chrome c4 ZR1 replicas for more than 10 years, one tire had a slow leak for years that got worse. All the air pumped into it has moisture, the moisture once it finds a weak spot will ruin the chrome.
All the chrome in one rim had peeled of where it contacts the air inside the tire, needed a replacement wheel.

I ask the tire fitter not to put soapy water on the bead, I use nitrogen now instead of compressed air however one wheel has chrome now lifting where the brake dust attacked it where I cannot wash them.... cannot win ....

Wheel companies do not want to re chrome them, moisture attacks the wheel itself also... there are concerns with alloy wheels that have been re chromed so they wont touch them with a ten foot pole...

They look great but you always worry when the chrome will fail.

Kimmer -- Great looking C4. What brand are those wheels? Knock offs or the real deal?

Kimmer's blue C4 with polished ZR1 wheels look spectacular ...

Kimmer: What brand ZR1 wheels are those? Originals or fakes?

Replica Chinese wheels are good for touring. DO NOT track those wheels, I was told by a forum racer they are like cream cheese.
