Default Exhaust Sound

I recently purchased an '86 convertible Indy Pace Car edition (black not yellow) I have owned two '96 collector editions and another two 2001's. The exhaust sound on this '86 is a low purr until you press on the accelerator even a little and the sound begins to get louder. Stomp on it and it becomes obnoxiously loud. Cruising speed isn't so bad. I don't remember the other C4's sounding like that and definitely not the C5's. Any other '86 or C4 owners have some info on what it should sound like and recommendations for replacement mufflers that might be a bit more pleasing?

When stock, it should be darn quite. Too quiet, IMO. Sounds like someone altered the exhaust system in your car, in some way. Mufflers, removed the cats....something.

Take a look at the exhaust system.
-does it have all the cats installed?
-does it have stock mufflers?

I find the Corsa on my '88 to give a nice sound with no drone at any speed.

Will have to check on the cat convertors. Don't know if they are stock.
Thanks for the tips.
