Default Low Oil light

My 92 170K mile LT1's low oil light has started to come on once in a while. Sometimes it goes out after a few miles, sometimes it stays on. I recently changed the oil and the dip stick shows it's full. I worry it may mean the oil pump is wearing out. It has plenty of oil pressure per the gauge and the oil is always cooler than the coolant. Any thoughts?

The Low Oil light is controlled by a small sensor (float) on the driver's side of the oil pan. My old '92 used to do that occasionally.

The oil pump doesn't have anything to do with the low oil light.

Mine started doing this when key is turned on after the last oil change, I turn the key off the back on and stays out. I doubt its the problem but the only thing I did was forget to prime the oil filter. I will probably just end up replacing the sensor when parked for the season to see if that fixes it.

This happened to me about 19 years ago with my 92. On the oil pan there is a sensor, it is a floater, and possibly it broke.

First off, ensure it is properly connected. If it is, then it may need to be replaced.

Oil must be drained for it to be removed. A crescent wrench will do the trick.
