I just received my second copy of All Corvettes are Red. I first read it 15 years ago when I got my 73 Shark and knew nothing about the C4. As I read chapter 1 it claims GM wanted to make the C5 everything the C4 was not. Thet used the C4 as an sounding board for things to change or improve. Indeed the C5 is more sophisticated as is the C6 and C7. But as I read I realized that the C4 was a greater leap from the C3 than the C5 from the C4. Most of what went in the C5 had been done before, only improved upon. The C4 introduced a barrage of technology, not only in electronics but in the entire car, from the birdcage frame on up. As challenging as it was to move the C5 through development and into production the C4 certainly had higher hurdles to jump, rivers to swim and mountains to climb. Is there any "good reads" about the development of the C4?

There is also a book about the zr1 car with the LT5 engine, can't remember the name, although Dave M''s book talks a lot about the ZR1 and development also

I've owned C3 C4 and C5 - every generation is a big leap in my book. You may not like all the leaps or looks, but they are almost always improvements in handling and power.

A good read for the C4 is "The Newest Corvette, From A through Z-52" buy Michael Lamm.

Great book if you want to learn what went into the design and production of the C4. Must read for all C4 owners IMO.

I read the book " All Corvettes Are Red " and I had two main take aways which were -

A. GM was hemorrhaging money during the time that the C5 was being designed and made. If not for many dedicated GM employees committed to the vette program we very well might not even have a C5, C6 and C7 vette.

B. The C5 was a all new vette just as the C4 had been. The C5 accomplished just as much as the C4 did when they were both released but the C5 was better prepared to be released then the C4. Both generations were big leaps forward when they were released which is saying something when you consider how dysfunctional GM was at the time.
