Default Need help Identifying this C4

This C4 is for sale for dirt cheap nearby but from my somewhat limited knowledge of C4's, the seller either doesn't know his car or has done some strange things to it. The seller just called it a "1990 Corvette" no other specific details.

So as you can see, it's got a 91+ exterior, zr1 bades, grandsport wheel stripes, and what seems to be an l98 engine... so what the heck is this thing really?

its not a ZR-1 or a Gran Sport. Most likely a 90 with 91 up bumpers, side moldings, 95-96 side panels, and GS rear wheels, due to the third brake light. Vin number or Federal sticker should tell you for sure. Those were real common mods 20 or so years ago.

You need the VIN from the windshield (to ID the car) and the title (to make sure it matches). It's an interesting piece for sure. The "under-hood" dictates the CHEAP I guess but there's some interesting additions to the car. It appears to have 11" replica wheels on the rear also so if "CHEAP" is what one is looking for it fits the bill. Someone went to an extreme it seems to do a "clone" of the ZR-1.

It wasn't an inexpensive project.

I wouldn't mess with it unless it was dirt cheap, but I am interested in seeing the Nova parked behind it.

It looks like someone pulled the dip stick and dip stick tube out of the engine and left them sitting on top of the valve cover in the one picture. I also notice the driver's side under dash panel seems to be pulled out and sitting on the seat...

We all agree, it's not ZR1, just Corvette neglected, and it must be cheap, cause it will cost to get it back to be reliable car to drive.
Nothing special of this car, except not properly maintain, just look at the engine compartment.

Dip stick and tube pulled out, missing valve cover bolts, looks like things laying on exhaust parts and likely burned just to name a few items. Wheels are wrong for this car, emblems don't belong on the car.

Unless it could be gotten for dirt cheap, you have time, space and ability to work on it and repair it yourself it will be an absolute money pit to work on.

Without more details it's hard to know if it's a viable option or not at this time. Either way I'm guessing it doesn't run so plan on towing it out if you do consider it.

Go into this one with your eyes wide open.

Ok, great info everyone, thank you. He's selling it for $2,000 and says it needs a new door lock key, and distributor but i suspect it's worse than that. I was hoping that maybe it was a 91 or 92 Zr1 and he didn't know any better so i'd be getting a good deal but i think $2,000 is still too much for it if it really is just a 1990 in this condition. Thanks for saving me a trip out to it.

I do have the tools, knowledge, and space to fix it up, but i really want a 95-96 if it's going to be a regular vette instead of a special edition.

run away from that car like the hounds of hell are chasing you. Looks like a parts car put back together from a worse parts car.

It's a gamble at $2000. Has good bones, but you better know how to wrench, and even then it could be a long, uphill battle.

You could buy it and part it out. That is about what it is worth.

If the A-molds are factory and not repo's and in perfect condition then that is about $500, maybe $800 to the right buyer.

If the ZF6 is in good/serviceable condition then that is $500-$1000.

Other misc parts like headlight motors, rear end, drive shaft, doors, mirrors, hood and interior parts could be flipped for the remainder of the cost.

You won't get rich off of it but you MIGHT recoup your purchase cost, shipping and more importantly your time.

I don't know where everyone else is from, but around here, Central Pa, that car would be a deal. If you buy it and need to have someone turn every bolt, maybe not. If you do your own wrenching, nothing to it. I would eliminate the bogus emblems and find out why the valve cover bolts are not in place. As far as the GS stripes, lots of them floating around, I even see them on Mustangs around here.

The build label on the rear edge of the driver's door should tell you what month and year the car was built. Sometimes people rip it off if they paint the car...

Well if it needed a motor, the engines are cheap.

The 10th digit of the IN will show the year of the car: For a 1990 it will be an L. For a 1991, it will be an M.

Just too many things wrong with this car.

Exterior looks nice after the hood is properly aligned. Everything else is in need of work. I caught the center-bolts missing from valve covers but did not immediately see the dipstick and tube sitting atop. That is funny to see. Suspension, Engine, Trans, and Interior may need work.

hahahaha.. ^^^^ this.

but, that said, I did it with an 85 and while i spent a lot of time swearing and cussing, i love the result.

id buy that car for 1K.

its got a buttload of corrosion on the aluminum. the fact that the oil dispstick is missing, with missing vc bolts, tells me somebody tried to do a head gasket job, or, maybe, just maybe, tried to run headers and then gave up.

you would want to see it running. and, listen carefully for a big bad knock.

even still, if i could buy it for 1 k, i'd buy it and do an LS swap into it.
