Default Starter motor question

Had a couple of incidents lately where car won't start. A whack on the starter and hey presto it starts.
What am I best off replacing the starter with.
It's an L98. (1990)
Bosch, Delco, or Hi torque.
Or it is easy enough to buy kit and rebuild my original.
I'm pretty handy with spanners. Already removed pre cats, changed plugs, leads, fuel Pump and sender unit.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

There are rebuild kits out there. From the sound of it you have something sticking. I'd suspect a rebuild would give you at least as good as any of the units you mentioned, if not better.
I suspect you can find something online or a vendor website on rebuilding your existing unit, might be worth a look first.

Currently on vacation in states. So plan on purchasing either kit or replacement unit whilst here.
could you point me in direction of where to find kit?

You really need to know if it's a Nippondenso OE/GM or not. Where's "home"? If it's a 'denso there's parts likely from someone local. If you know that it's OE/GM and original you certainly want to buy parts for it and not an "off the shelf" reman of any brand.

I'd rather a have an OE/GM with a replaced plunger and solenoid contacts any day over most "off the shelf" units.

This would be a "good read"!!

I am guessing that home is England (spanners), you should be able to find someone who can rebuild your starter close to home. If the starter is stock along with the engine, a stock Delco will work just fine. Buying one here and shipping it home would be pretty costly (heavy), I would just buy a rebuild kit and give that a try. Enjoy your vacation !

Hopefully you will enjoy your time here as much as my wife and I did in England. Just remember to drive on the other side of the road !
