Hope everyone is ready for Thanksgiving feasts

I read on here that some C4s catch fire. WTF.. never read that in several months researching the car. Now that I have one I naturally have some questions.. lol

1. What are the common reasons and parts involved for this? I'd like to check them OFTEN

2. What is in your C4-specific fire toolkit besides an extinguisher?

3. What extinguisher brand, model and weight/size? Any real life use? I read reviews of some with good reviews that don't work when there's a fire! or they spray for like 4 seconds Read that plastic parts are bad

I'm thinking about this 4.5 lb model w/ metal parts. 4 or 4.5 lbs of spray and 7 lbs overall.

Hi

The fire starters are ruptured fuel pressure regulator diaphragm, will allow fuel into the intake and sump.

In my case the oil pressure sender burst, spraying oil onto the headers.
One extinguisher did the job, however the hood release cables will seize so make sure you notice smoke and stop quickly.
There was an unfortunate member that had photos of fire crews using an axe on the hood, to access the engine bay fire.


I carry two extinguishers and lots of tools, (3/8 socket set slides under the seat nicely)
Heaps of spanners shifter and screwdrivers, now I also carry a small hacksaw.

Not to mention spare maf spare ecm spare serpentine belt and spare fuel pump

I don't think the C4 is any more fire prone than any other car except that they are old plus the owners tend to monkey around under the hood more than say an old Taurus.

Will say Im amazed at the amount of owners who say, cancelled their ins to save what, $100 or $200 IF that over the winter, their shop burns down then??? sorry but

Def agree with you on the solid insurance policy. I have 500k bodily injury and the max available to me was 1 mill I think. Maybe when I get older I'll get higher limits lol Got property damage, med, uninsured/underinsured

But the insurance co. won't find me another 6 speed admiral blue so if I can put a small fire out, I'll try!

I like the idea of carrying an extinguisher,might save someones life,watch the news,it happens,cars can be replaced.I also carry full coverage for piece of mind,$220 well worth it for my 1994 C4.Happy holidays to all.

I carry a 1A10BC extinguisher in all my cars. I've had to use an extinguisher twice. Both times they worked well, and put out the fire before there was any real damage. I have mine velcroed to the front seat bracket where I can get at quickly.

I was being pretty selfish thinking about saving just my C4 but of course the thoughts of saving myself, my passenger or random ppl on the road popped in my head

I saw a video of a man some European country burning inside his car and screaming for several minutes. Fire truck wasn't there the entire video. That's def engraved in my head

Anyway I'm not saying ppl are doing anything wrong by not being super precautious. We can't stock a car, especially a Vette like an ambulance but things always happen. We can agree there are so many distracted idiots out there both driving, bike riding and walking daily!

I carry a Kidde 3.5lb Dry Chemical Fire Extinguisher good for class A, B and C fires. Picked it up at Home Depot for less that $20.

I'm a volunteer first responder for the Local Sheriff's Department and I know that having it around "just in case" for me or someone else can be a life saver.

I have a can of Cold-Fire. No powder mess. Good enough for NASCAR, good enough for me.

Also have a quick-disconnect on the battery.

I carry a extinguisher in all my cars make sure they are electric friendly. I was in a extremely bad fire and after 3rd degree burns to 85% of the body 18 months in the burn unit and over 65 surgies i wouldnt wish that on my worst enemy or thier car...

I attended a demonstration of ColdFire to emphsise its heat protection qualities. The guy covered his forearm with ColdFire then proceded to hold a highway flare on his arm. As long as there was a layer of product, the fire/heat didn't penetrate. Nascar uses it like water when a driver is involved. Hose the driver down first, then hit the fire. Good stuff

I use halon. Crack the hood, hold your breath and squirt.
If that doesn't work throw in another highway flare.

I carry Halons, but mostly for someone else. If mine starts blazing away, I plan on getting as far away as possible. Not interested in trying to repair a fire damaged engine room. Too many inherent issues pop up. I'm sure I can easily find a replacement. My motto is "don't love nothing that don't love ya back" CL is full of vettes.

If my C4 caught fire I would let it burn, collect the insurance money and get a C6.
