Default spare tire 150/80/16 be nice

http://www.chaparral-racing.com/prod...69-874170.aspx

Would a motorcycle 150/80/16
work for our 1985 spares. It is supposed to be 155/80/16 that's only 5 mm skinnier. I am getting close to daily driving my c4 sometimes (to save some gas)
and I am just looking around.

Are you looking at this option because you can't find a suitable passenger car tire?

Motorcycle wheels and tires have a different bead style/area than passenger car tires. I have no idea if this works or not though

Definitely different load ratings between the two.

Look for a spare from a late model GTO. Not sure if the wheel would bolt up on a early C4, but the GTO tire size will work fine on the OEM spare wheel.

I would think that a motorcycle tire would not be able to handle the weight of a car even if it's just at one position. Cornering forces on the sidewall could easily tear up a motorcycle tire.

As long as the tire diameter when mounted on the GTO spare wheel is close to that of the OEM spare, it should work. You would also have to make sure that a GTO spare will fit in the carrier.

Try doing a search in the C4 sections for something like "GTO Spare" to see what has been discussed.

If your that concerned about getting a flat, carry a can of flat fix.
Or find a real tire/wheel and keep it in the cargo area.

But trying to justify a motorcycle tire because it might fit is just ridiculous and dangerous.

1/ The sidewall construction is entirely different, 2/ The load rating is insufficient, 3/ The mounting bead is entirely different, 4/ Cycle tires are more expensive than car tires. No reputable garage will mount them for you. If they do I'd suggest a different garage. There is a huge potential for liability here in addition to a severe lack of common sense. Carry a couple of cans of fix-a- flat or slime and a portable inflater. We would hate to lose you to stupidity.

Have you gone to visit your local tire store? My local mom and pop place said they could get me one if I really wanted it. Quoted me around 150 IIRC last year. For that price I figured my road side assist was good enough.

Good find I'm looking into the fact that 90 mm height will fit in the tray, I think it will but I don't remember how tight it is . thx
