How many C4's are still on the road?

Melting Slicks
With C4s being so cheap, boy racers buy and crash them.
A lot have been run into the ground worth nothing only in parts, its a latest and greatest or throw away mentality.
The low mile looked after and those restored to pristine condition are few and far between.
They will be worth something in 20 to 40 years maybe to enthusiasts.

Drifting
^^^^^^^^ WOW! After 5 years, time is showing that those who kept that C4 in the garage, instead of selling it in a local newspaper or CL, should be smiling. Maybe its the beginning of a resurrection. Once again, time will tell.

Oh come on, it came from his a$$! It's humor, a spoof, a joke. It's not serious and nobody could possibly have that number. Every given day, somebody goes to a DMV somewhere and registers one that has been in a barn, and every single day one catches fire or gets driven into a tree and destroyed. Even the definition of "on the road" is subject to interpretation. Titled? Registered? Driven within the last month? Capable of being driven once the snow melts?

Hey Guys.
New to this forum.
I meant to reply to post by *89x2* on 12-30-2018 - "272,916 are still registered." I see only "Post Quick Reply" available, which doesn't post it as a response to his original msg.
Maybe another chain yank. But given that companies like Subaru throw out numbers of their cars still on the road in adverts, I suspect someone may have consolidated numbers, maybe from DMVs.
Any info appreciated.

Railroadman - all the factors you list are obvious. Of course a highly specific number is useless impossible. I am seeking info for serious reasons. I am usually up for sarcasm and joking around as quick as the next guy. But my question sounded at least semi-serious, right? I have been asking Hagerty if they have any data or estimates. Waiting for their response. I am sure sometimes people are on here for reasons other than jacking around.

OK, maybe a little belated, but welcome to the forum! I missed the fact that you are new and maybe piled it on a bit heavier than I should have. But my point is still valid, it's not a number that could easily be determined even if we define what is meant by "on the road". Each state handles their records differently, and privacy laws make it impossible to trace a given car to its owner. *IF* you could convince all 50 states to do a general search for the C-4 years, and add all those together, you'd have a start - but what about the ones in say Sweden, or New Zealand, or even Canada? Sadly there is no way of getting much closer than a wild guess.
BUT - don't let that stop you from enjoying them anyway. You are at the right spot for help, collectively just about every problem can be diagnosed, every repair you can name has been done by people on here, and you can get advice on any part of any year. You have demonstrated a thick skin, now if you also have a willingness to grit your teeth when something occasionally goes sour, there is a lot of fun to be had. Welcome again, and maybe somebody can come up with a scientific guess at those numbers.

Railroadman - Not easily determined - yes.... all the factors you list and more mean a highly specific number is useless and impossible. But people, organizations, and businesses still put together the best numbers they can. Hagerty gathers a stunning amount of data on sales and values.
I am doing some research.
Ten minutes ago I discovered that R. L. Polk & Co. used to publish a National Vehicle Population Profile Online (NVPP), providing aftermarket customers with industry standard vehicle population data. I will contact them Monday morning. Maybe it's the thing I need. Maybe not.
The reason for being here and asking questions is that there are some deadly serious Corvette and automotive historians and analysts out there. I am told that this is THE global Corvette forum of all forums.

Well I certainly can't dispute that, we have forum members in almost any nation you can name. And at times some of those foreign members have posted pics of a US-themed car show in their country, and there are so many Vettes it looks like it was taken in the States.
This is a good place no matter what facet of the hobby you can name. And yet I am amazed that when I'm out and about and encounter a random Corvette owner, more often than not they say they are NOT on this forum. Perhaps your statistical research will develop a ballpark number of owners, which can be compared with the number of forum members we have. (still lots of pitfalls, many people have sold off their Corvette, or passed away, over the past 20 years of the forum, but are still shown as members.)
I'm not familiar with R.L. Polk but maybe they'll have something useful for your needs.

Most have never even heard of it; kinda chuckle when I see posts of "jack your price up it helps the resale market"."Keep those values up...see they are incrasing in value!"
Yeaaaah right. See a lot of CL ads where guys reference or try to justify their price to some forum guru. Who g.a.f. lol
Wondered about those commercials, subaru, F150...which are still on the road? 2021? going back the 70s?
Most subies by 100k puke a HG or worse.

That will simplify things a little. Are you going to differentiate between "titled" and "registered"? I'm guessing there are more than a few where the owner holds a legal title, but is in a long term project and does not have the car registered "on the road".
