How to make IRS rear end strong
Alright I have a 86 corvette automatic only modifications is I swapped it to a carb (edlebrock performer intake) (holley 750), a plate kit (100 shot) and slicks (M/T et street radials) the car ran a 7.54 in the 1/8 with a 1.49 60ft and broke a half shaft shortly after replacing that it broke again I think I broke a tooth off the ring or pinion cause it makes a bad clunk when driving or going from park to reverse or park to drive. So anyways what can I do to make it stronger? will a Dana 44 hold up? Or will I have to go solid rearend

I think you have a Dana 36, so a 44 would be stronger. Something I've read about but never personally seen is cryo treating metal parts. It's some form of special freezing that supposed to add strength to metal items. Might be worth researching.

reckon that clunk is a u joint going south on you? This is a subject that I worry about. I race my 86 (stock) on "wild wensday" here at the track in Indy (Brownsburg, oriely race track) and don't want to have to walk home due to a blown rear end. Turns 14.03 almost every run. 1/4 mile.
