Decisions, decisions, should I buy a new(er) Vette or mod current one?
Ok, here's the deal, I can't decide if I should just mod my 92, buy a newer C4 (LT4 or ZR1), or buy a C5. My 92 is a great car, but it's going to need a lot of maintenance work fairly soon as well as the mods I'd do. If I keep it, I would probably put $5K into it and end up with about 400-425HP and a car that will outhandle a stock Z06 (but have a rougher ride). At this point I'm really leaning towards modding mine, or getting a ZR1 as I just don't care for the rear end style on the C5s.

For just a little bit of money I can point you in the direction of 365 rwhp, it'll still be extremely streetale and a normal C5 won't have a prayer.
Plus you'll still have your car that you know and love.
Or you could always buy a ZR-1, but whatever you do don't buy a C5. :U

Depends :D
My first choice would be a ZR1. But alot depends on what you have to spend and what you can afford to maintain. TheZR1 is a great car but I dont think the maintanence and repair is cheap or for the average mechanic. Plus would it be a daily driver.
Mod's to the 92 would be fun and you'd end up witha great car. But my thought there is you end up like me, alot of money invested in an older car that you could never resell and get close to what you have in it. i.e. if you add what I paid for my car plus what I put in it I could never get close to getting money back. With the ZR1 that would be very possible if you ever need to sell.
The C5 is a great car, but I would prefer the ZR1. But that just my taste.
I ended up with the Lt4 because it fit my budget and I could try to do some work myself.
Bottom line buy th best one you can afford and drive like you stole it :D :D

Well, that is a difficult choice.
Who wouldn't want a ZR-1? But at the same time, it would cost a lot less to mod the 92. Plus you are familiar with the 92, so you know its quirks.

The ZR-1s are SO reasonable right now. I've been seriousely thinking about this.

Go for the ZR-1, if you like the C4 you have now. Otherwise, C5 all the way. :yesnod:

I would just mod the 92. If you buy a ZR1, you wont be able to beat on it and not feel bad for hurting such an awesome and rare car. On the other hand is you hurt something beating on your sooped up 92 all you have to do is fix it. No biggie.

I didn't like the way the rear of the C5 looked at first. But, after driving one, the C4 went away, and that rear end dosen't look too bad after all.

Without a doubt..... ZR-1 If you can afford one, there are alot of low mileage beauties out there.

You can mod your current LT1 all you want but it still won't be an LT5. Not a knock against the LT1, but the LT5 is something very special.

I'm sooo in the same boat as you.
I've been going back and forth and back and forth on this same issue.
It would be fun to keep my 92 and mod it, but that takes a lot of time on my part. Then a LT4 would be nice, cause its cheapest of the options, but I would just really want to mod that too.
Then there is the ZR1, I don't think I want to spend that much money on a 7-10year old car, but they are hella nice.
Then there is the C5, which I can get with very few miles and pretty new. Probably gonna have to mod it too though. But I just love the styling.
I decided on the C5 route this month, I just want something new. I am giving myself to the end of october to really decide, best to take a long time deciding what to do than to have regrets.

I say mod the current one. ZR-1 parts are hard to find, expensive it's to work on them. It's an LT5...
Side note: The Z06 handles so well because A) The hardtop body style is more rigid than the others, and B) (the majority of it, actually) is the tires. The tires are what give it the handling capabilites it has.

If you can get a ZR1, then go ahead. But modding your own car is fun.

Personally I'd stick with the devil you know, the 92.
Reason is if you buy a C-5 you'll pay big time in taxes. Here the sales tax is 8%. Then the road tax, insurance, etc.
The C-5's are in a free fall right now. Return on a C-5 is a sinking ship.
If you want a C-5 wait till the C-6 comes out. A Corvette is not an investment, but a huge loss is hard to take.
The money you'll save on taxes and higher payments will pay for your mods.
I hate paying the state every time I move up. The prices are stablizing on the C-4's. Stick around its just gettin good.
If you have to move up a LT-4 is your best bet.
A ZR-1 wont be a daily driver.
A C-5 will break the bank.
