You need to supply part #'s for what you've bought. You mention STANDARD - this appears to be an ATC C68? Any casting information from the original also!!

Take your information and snapshots directly to Dorman maybe!! If you bought "local" have the jobber initiate the call. If an Internet purchase it may have it's challenges!!

The Dorman part did not work for my 1996 Vette, besides the mechanical difference there is also an impedance difference between the stock part and the Dorman part.
I ended up purchasing a used OEM one off Ebay and it didn't work either!!!
I decided to pull it apart and found that the nylon gear that is pressed onto the metal shaft splits and causes a gap between the cogs it also causes the nylon gear to slip on the metal shaft.
I took a small torch and heated the metal shaft carefully until the nylon melted slightly and the gap in the cogs closed up.
I then used a bit of epoxy to further reinforce the nylon gear to the metal shaft. I timed the gear with the alignment marks, disconnected the battery for a few minutes to reset the auto climate control, reinstalled the temperature control module, reconnected the battery and it has been working fine ever since the repair.
Sorry, I don't have any repair pictures otherwise I would have posted them.

OP - here's an older thread that I remembered but could put my hands on yesterday. I'm guessing the newer GM part is a reboxed Dorman so you take what you've got to a dealer with it in stock and check visually maybe the pinning etc.
Newer GM# 89018368
This thread seems to also imply that "it can be made to work" - who knows!

I still believe you first take it to Dorman for maybe a conversation!
