Default Under Hood Light Cutoff Switch

I am attaching a simple fix I did to be able to shut off the under hood lights on my 1988. The PO had simply unplugged the lights which I didn't like. After a little thought I added a switch on each side mounted on the headlight bracket. This is a much cheaper option than what is available to purchase OTC. Whole thing cost me about $37 to put a switch on both sides. Also makes it much easier to shut of power to change bulbs if necessary.

If you don't want to cut wires, pull fuses or bulbs there are kits that will only cost a few bucks more: http://www.ecklerscorvette.com/corve...late-1996.html

It's all plug-and-play and can be put back to original config at any time and it's water tight from what I can tell.

My fuse is permanently pulled unless I'm doing something at night which never happens. I do keep a fuse in the door compartment.

I saw that but though it was for only one side. Guess I should have checked.

I put a couple of plastic rocker switches in my underhood light circuits:

There are no wires showing because they are inside the hood reinforcements.

Just for others benefits if considering this, I put one on mine. I wanted something that both worked and was reversible if ever desired.

It's been a couple of years since I did mine, but here's what I remember of the installation. You unhook both sets of wiring to the under-hood lights down by the headlights. There's a plug to cap off one side of input wire, they run in common so they're coming from the same source. You plug the harness into the input wire on one side, I picked the passenger side so it was on the same side as the hood support. There are 2 plugs that hook up to the under-hood light wiring. For the drivers side, I ran the wire loom under the radiator and wire-tied it onto the support. The on-off switch is water proof and again I wire-tied it down in the under headlight well on the passenger side. All done. If you ever want to go back to original, just unhook the loom and restore the original connections.

To turn the light on, push the button. Push it again to turn it off.

Do you have the part number for the LED replacement bulb?

Nice, the only reason I didn't go with the rocker style switch is I couldn't find one I liked that was waterproof. You probably will never have a problem though with the way you installed it.

I installed LEDs in mine also.

from Amazon. $10.99 for both. They are very bright.

I used these under the hood. I had them left over from doing the lights over the door handles

I ran the light wires inside the reinforcement like Cliff Harris did and installed the rocker switch on the underside.

The LED's are crazy bright, I should have done this a long time ago. The pill on the passenger side was bad (tested on the bench), so I ordered a couple replacements from Corvette Central.

I was going to run the lights to one switch, but keeping them independent serves the purpose.
