Full charge the battery before driving so you do not overtax the alternator, this may take awhile if battery is very low and using a low amp charger, overnight or longer and battery may come back to full life. Good luck with the hood, you will get it open sooner or later just do not give up.

I put a pretty good charge in it b4 trying to start it. I felt like looking toward the heavens and screaming " YES" when it kicked over then started. It made my day. I did drive it about 20 miles after starting and putting wheel back on. I have seen a few Vettes with the battery side panel broken off to get to the battery. Hope this method helps someone, sticky?

Hi

Why not use the hood opening tool, see below and google its use.
You have to align the black mark, with the dimensions below you should easily be able to make one to open your hood.

I bought that once and had tried, my mechanic's tried, shop Forman tried Service manager tried, then I get my my smart *** Tech with coat hanger bent, opened in less then two minutes, and we all work at Lincoln dealership. All they did was scratch the hell out of the inside of my hood.

In fact I still have it, found use for it to pull the hurricane shutters closed cause can't reach them on the second floor of house.

I am thinking lever is jammed. I have opened other side months be using the tool. That's why I think its jammed plus fishing around under there, I pulled out what remained of my broken E. hood opener cable. Will let buddy try who says he can open any vette hood. If he cant, plan B is going thru the fender well. Plan c is cutting the hood.

Ok, Time for a stupid question from a noob......

Why can't you open the hood just because the battery is dead????

I would use my key to unlock the door, pull the hood release.

What am I missing????

If this ever happens to you... you can, and I have, charge the battery by getting a small, slow charger. Charging clips cannot be larger than your 1/2 your hand. Take off pass wheel, and use starter hot stud and ground to engine. It will SLOW charge that way. Remember, battery cable hooks to starter..thats the one you use.

Thanks... Let me clear that post up a bit. I put hot cable on the hot stud and put a small piece of cardboard ( flap off a brake pad carton) to make sure hot clip didn't touch anything but hot starter stud. Grounds other clip to first handy thing I saw, which was some sort of flange. I hope this helps someone who cant open the hood for some reason and wants to drive that car to a shop. Key does NOT have to be on or even in the slot.

Ghoastrider1,
Just wanted to thank you for motivating me to pick up a bag of black 45 pound fishing leaders from Bass Pro. After reading your troubles I figured I should take preventive action.
