Default 1995 C4 Air Conditioner swap

Hello!

I have a 1995 Corvette with the manual A/C in the dash. I'm wondering if it is possible to buy the digital control A/C unit off of eBay and swap them out? If it is possible, is it just the dash unit I would need or are there other components I would need to make the switch work?

Thanks guys!!

I don't know about '95, but in the pre-1990 cars the wiring behind the dash is completely different.

It would not be an easy swap. The manual controls are pretty cool I would leave them.

I would much rather have the manual controls. The digital units had contacts that would get dirty and fail to work. I kept a spray can of electrical contact cleaner in my car to spray into the unit so I could get AC or heat when I needed it. I would have swapped out the digital unit for a manual one in a second if I could have.

vehicle wire harnesses arent typically "universal". i've found that when a C4 has the electronic climate control it also has the Bose so i would bet money the harnesses are different...thats just too much going on to make things universal. plus as the gentleman above said...the electronic controls are prone to failure and needing rebuilds.

I looked at doing it once and there is a lot to change out.

Dirty contacts are a common problem.

However the repair is easy and only takes about a half an hour to take apart the unit and clean the contacts. There are several threads that describe the process.

I have done it on 3 cars and all three worked perfectly for years after the cleaning with no problems returning.

You should give it a try.

Good luck.
