How to remove and tint your tail lights. For EARLY C4's.
I know a few people are curious how an early c4 looks with tinted tail lights, and there aren't many pictures or videos of them out there. So I decided to Remove and tint my tail lights and figured i'd make a little tutorial that might help some people. If you have large forearms, forget it ! My arms ended up pretty cut up. After putting back everything I found out my farthest left Brake light was out, had to do this process all over again, talk about frustrating Did I mention I dropped the ratchet and spent close to a HOUR getting it out and almost getting my arm stuck in the bumper? DO NOT DROP IT!
In Picture 4 it shows where the bolt holes are, where the black circles are, these are in the same spot for ALL 4 tail lights.
Step 1: Remove license plate.
Step 2: Grab a 10MM socket and a SMALL Ratchet.
Step 3: Start with either INNER tail light, remove bolts carefully.
Step 4: Remove inner tail light and Unplug it.
Step 5: You can now reach the bolts for the outer tail lights, remove them.
Step 6: Disconnect lights and paint!
Step 7: I'd recommend replacing the bulbs while you're there, you don't want to do this again.
Step 8: do steps 3-5 in reverse.
I'm very happy with the results and the camera doesn't really do it justice. I'll be tweaking this to make it more professional and make more sense, as i'm not very good at making guides.
I attached a Video showing my fail of getting the ratchet stuck in the bottom of the car aswell of a video showing how you can still CLEARLY see the brake lights in broad day light, for those worrying that this would be to dark. This was two coats of paint.
You can hear me laugh a little realizing how this is the WORST possible, and hardest spot to reach where it happen to fall.

I remember reading a magazine article early on in C4 production where they talked about engineering the tail lights so they didn't show the attachment screws. They were proud of how it turned out, much cleaner look over the previous models. I bet they weren't looking down the road when they had these wonderful designs!! What you did looks good.

Why not just use a small piece of window tint material, cut 4 circles, apply a little water and squeegee them on the outside? If its too dark select a lighter shade and do it again. A tint man would probably give you some scrap pieces. No banged up arms or lost tools.

Another thing I like on the white cars, is to paint the recesses around the tail lights and license plate, a flat black. I've seen one in here some time ago.

If your arms are too fat like mine to reach in through the number plate hole, you can remove the mufflers and reach them from below. It's only a 5 minute job to remove them.

I've replaced the bulbs in my '84 in less than 10 minutes.
Tinting the lenses must be a generational thing. Has no appeal to me.

It is easier than that. There are 2 screws on the bottom of the bumper cover. Remove those and the cover pulls away enough that access is a piece of cake, even with my fat arms.
