Each generation Corvette is better than the previous. Hence the old saying; buy the newest Corvette you can afford. If I'm starting a business and need a computer system to run it why would I choose old technology to do the work? It might get the job done, but it's going take longer and make me want to bang my head multiple times while the computer processes information. As the saying goes you can polish a turd.....

C5Z compared to a C6 base as far as which is better, they are close. Similar times, but I believe the C5Z fairs better in the 1/4 compared to the 05-07 C6. So choosing between the two boils down to looks. Arguing/debating modding becomes a moot point IMO as both are LS based, 5 hp apart, and the C5Z is roughly 100lbs lighter.

The driver feel is different between the two, the easiest explanation is the C5Z has more of a raw feel. As a driver you feel much more connected to the road. The same argument is used when comparing the C4 to a C5. The C6 is more refined and the interior is a slight win over any stock C5.

Personally, I prefer the looks of the C5Z compared to the narrow looking C6 base. The base model just seems to leave alot to be desired. The FRC design is something people love or hate, usually there is no in between. The C6 Z06, C6 GS, and C6 ZR1 look worlds better than the C6 base because of their wide body. Not to mention the upgraded options that come factory with the ones mentioned above.

With that being said, my next Corvette purchase will be a Velocity Yellow C6ZR1.

I could give you a definition, but you'd probably just respond with something like:

Anyway, I've had both; a C6 and a late C4 (not a ZR-1 although I've driven 4 ZR-1's now). My opinion is that the C6 was boring to drive on the street, the C4 is fun to drive on the street. SO, my strong advice is to drive both and see which suits you best. I wish I could have before I bought my C6.

It might have been the blanket nature of your dismissal. Had you been more specific, like "it has a rear that's bigger than all outdoors" or "if my dog's face was as ugly as the nose on a C5, I'd shave his *** and walk him backwards" you'd have been spot on.

C5=ugliest Corvette ever.

What I am looking for is not just "I don't like it". What I look for is something objective. "I don't like the way it looks" is vastly different from "power in the L98 drops off after 5000 rpm".

Fair enough. Looks are kinda subjective and what you like in that department is different from what 100 other people like. Is there anything objective that sucks about it?

The best bang for the buck is the C6 which is available for 1/3 the cost of the ZR1 edit... Are we talking a C6 ZR1 vs a C6 base or a C4 ZR1 vs a C6?

I've waited over 20 years to buy my most recent C4's...and average cost of each is $3900 (bought my 95 6-speed last summer and my 92 automatic vert this summer).
I'm in NO hurry to swap out of the C4....I like them VERY MUCH

and both are daily driver's with not a single repair cost other than upgrades or maintenance.

I will just say that my opinion is the C6 ZR1 looks AMAZING...it may be my personal favorite (for looks) other than something like a 1958 or a 1967...but I'm sure the Op is talking about a C4 ZR-1

Short of a collector car, does it matter if you drive it?

I guess I'm just as dumb,I wouldn't own a C5. When I bought my Z didn't even consider a C5. The C6 is a gorgeous car,almost bought a new one but the ZR-1 is what's in my garage. I do lust for a 2013 ZR1 though,white brushed aluminum-black wheels.

I think the issue was that he said that they were garbage and had nothing to back up how a technologically superior vehicle was that bad. AFAIK, the C5 is superior in most any quantifiable metric. OTOH, had he said "I don't like the look of it", that would have been a different issue.

C7 is CURRENTLY top dog followed by the C6 and C5 and C4 and so on.

If it offends you that I have a C4 and on this forum BUT will not blindly insist on it being the best and try to invent stupid reasons why it is better, I'm truly sorry. I had no idea that you had to worship the vehicle blindly. I must have missed that in the TOU.

I mean....I'm with Mark on this one. If you like the C5 so much better, why don't you have one?

Since I started with a C6, then had the C4...then sold the C6....Why would I
"try to invent stupid reasons why it is better"

In my case, for 3-1/2 years I "try to invent stupid reasons why it (the C6) is better....but I just didn't like the thing at all. Other than on the track, I found it to be an irritating car to own and drive. The C4 is fun...so for me, that makes it "better".

....and that is why I recommend to all prospective C5^ buyers to drive one and see what they like better. I wish I could have had that opportunity.

Depending on when the C4 breaks bad enough or it got destroyed or stolen. If the motor died tomorrow, I'd part it out and get a C5 or better yet, C6. Till then, I have invested enough that I can't justify tossing it out. IF I could financially justify it, I'd buy a used C7 tomorrow. That is why the C4 is being driven into the ground and depending on when it dies, a C5 or maybe a C6 could be in the picture unless there is something really bad about it. I'm not sure why that is so difficult a concept. You have leftover cold cuts, eat them before you go buy yourself a steak dinner and not just toss them out. Sure, I can afford to throw them out and just get a nicer meal but that is not what I do. Yesterday's king is tomorrow's nobody.

I really want to flame Akin but i cant...he may have financial restrictions keeping him from a C5, C6 or the TOP DAWG C7 so he is stuck with a C4 and hanging out with us.

I could drive a "newer" Corvette if I wanted but I spent my hard earned money on an Audi, and a Mercedes before that...the C4 Vettes I own are for that perma-grin, and that's priceless

ok Akim, you're on my ignore list. Great job in contributing to the forum with ALL your fluffy content

Yes, it's about using what you got till it is done then get the new toy.

Why do you feel you need to tell me that? Am I supposed to be sad that you are ignoring me? WGAS? If you aren't speaking into the mike or writing my check, WGAS what you think?
