Default why no power roof option for verts?

Have a 90 vert. I don't mind having to put the roof down manually but would rather have power. Had power roof on my 90 mustang cobra and is a common feature on most vert cars. Why didn't gm make that option? Has anyone ever nodded a power roof on a c4? Just curious are the newer vettes (c5,c6,c7) power roofed?

Weight, space savings, and cost is why.

Power mechanisms back in the day were even heavier than they are now.

I believe the powered softtop started with the C6.

I've seen a few of the c6 power tops act funky. There's a safety switch in the trunk area that can act up preventing the top from coming from the stowed position. A royal PITA according the the few I've known that had the prob. And as they get older, they are prone to wear and wearing out. Honestly, it takes me about the same amount of time to drop my top manually as it does theirs powered. I just can't remain seated. I love my 95 convertible, by the way!!

Good question for Gordon Killebrew. Ask him at the next major Corvette show that you attend.

I always found this rather odd as well. The only reasoning I can think of that GM did this is due to weight and cost savings

The C4 vert roofs are so small and easy to put down I think GM did us a favor by leaving it manual. I have a 2002 BMW 3 series convertible and I always hold my breath when I put it down or put it up. It's a very complicated top. Thankfully I have only had one small issue with it in 7 years of ownership that was a common problem and an easy DIY fix.
