thanks for checking it out...i get a lot of looks at work, from friends and neighbors so i thought i would clear the air. too bad it was a miserable weather day yesterday (hence the filter)...my car typically never sees rain and it didn't rain until half way through my project haha

The Mrs and I were talking about this place last night, actually. It came up how many people buy a Vette and their first post is along the lines of:
"OMZ!! Something is broke?/I don't understand!/Help!/Is this going to be a money pit or cost a million dollars to maintain?!?!?"
People are (understandably) worried about buying a 20 or 30 year old hot rod. Who wouldn't be? Especially if you aren't a master mechanic with a quarter million bucks in tools lying around?
You can kinda sense the desperation from those first posts. I think this place does an EXCELLENT job of helping such people. I know it has been a great resource for me, and stuff like this video may help calm nerves and encourage people to get off the fence and take a chance on a really unique and interesting hobby when they otherwise wouldn't have?

Actually, I often use the bigscreen as my computer monitor in the living room, and the Mrs. reads CF with me.
Between this place and seeing everything I've done to mine, riding in it, driving it, now she wants one for herself.
I think she wants a C3 though. *mad face*
But, she's causally shopping.. Things like this video would help people like her pull the trigger and do it.

and with that said...i've been around equipment, tools and working with metal my entire adult life so i'm fairly competent and i do have a decent collection of tools but nothing really "specialty"..i sold all my auto-body equipment when i moved into a town home.

She really likes the late C3's and I was paging past 1993C4LT1's ruby, and she liked that.
You can tell, because she's scoping them in car lots now. Noting prices and flirting with the whole idea. lol.

actually C3's arent on my radar but when i see one in person i always stop and think...the classic lines and i just love the wheels on the mid 70's
(68-72 are just out of my scope and with the 73 forgetting to mount it's front bumper i cant even consider that haha) but the 74-77 rear window/body line (is that the b-pillar on that style coupe?) just look great to me

I had written a post a few months ago about the 'true' cost of these cars. I bought my 1996 LT4 in 2015 at 75k miles. He had all receipts and did most of the big stuff. Today I have about $1,500 in parts alone. If I had to pay a garage to do it I would be out at least another 3k. This last month has been a nonstop break-fest for the car. First the hydraulic clutch hose, then the parking brake (rear caliper is bad), then the spark plug wires causing really bad random misfires.
When they're good they're good and when they're bad it comes down on you like a sack of bricks. Hopefully I'm just getting it over with first and it will average out
Good video though. Everyone thinks these cars are super expensive to buy. I've asked people how much they think I payed for mine and I usually get response in the 30k range.

my advice for a C4 car shopper, especially a first time buyer would be to do your research. these cars don't have a ton of options, but most of them are worth having as they either offer "quality of life" improvements (Bose, sport seats, dual roof/glass roof) or they offer performance improvements (J55, Z51, G92) and more important...don't buy the first car in your price range...wait, be patient and get the right car for you...it's out there!!!
and yes a history of having repairs would be GOOD NEWS because then you might hit the jackpot and see that the opti or transmission had a repair done to them in recent years...thats def "piece of mind" right there

nice collection!
the GM paints in the late C4's were subject to lighting and i must say you hit the perfect lighting to bring out a nice color in each...and those chrome replica wheels actually look really nice!
