Default Need battery for PKE

Help, need to find a source for the battery in my key fob for my 96' convertible. The current battery is a Maxell CR2450 the owners manual says to use a Duracell DL2450. While there are a lot of 2450's around they don't fit in my fob. The battery needed is a special shape with a grove around the top edge. None of the specialty battery shops have them and I have looked on line, no one has them.

Try chevy dealer parts. That's where I got mine a couple of years ago. Price was ridiculous for just a battery.

That's probably why my battery holder broke when I just shoved in a new battery of the same type number before I examined it. I thought that's what the damn numbers were for on a battery, or any other part for that matter, so you get a part that FITS correctly. If it doesn't fit in the same hole a 2450 came out of, it's not really a 2450 size battery, now is it!

Basically something like this
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1993-1994-19...38.m2548.l4275

I don't recall the last time I replaced mine though and didn't realize you need the grove for proper fit.

This is interesting. The OE fob for my 96 was broken when I bought it so I never used it. I bought a replacement fob off ebay, it works fine with the Energizer 2450 batteries I can get at Walmart. The big problem I have with mine though is that it eats the batteries, I usually don't get more than three months out of one. But at least I can apparently use any old 2450 that I can find.

Been years since I replaced mine battery, yet they are still working...that sounds like the motion detection system is working correctly in the FOB and it's constantly transmitting.

Yeah, that's kind of what I figured. At this point I'm just living with it since I don't want to spring for the cost of another one that may end up having the same issue.

I'm using an Energizer 2450 I bought this year in my 96 fob right now and it fits no problem as well. Not sure why the OP is having problems.

I couldn't find the proper replacement battery either so I went a little smaller. The CR2430 is the same diameter as the CR2450 just a little thinner. I used a piece of sticky backed foam rubber to properly hold it against the bottom(neg) contact. The passive system seems to be working just fine now but I'm having some problems with the buttons. More playing around with it is needed The battery is available from DigiKey for about $1.80 plus shipping. Also, I think Batteries Plus has them.

Any 2450 battery should work, at least they do in my 1995 fob. I got 12 fresh Energizers for about $18:
Energizer 2450 Energizer 2450

This is a common battery size for many devices so I give them to friends family coworkers if needed.

What do you mean by "problems with the buttons"?

I can't always lock/unlock the door by pressing the button area on the fob or unlock the convertible top hatch.

My 96 fob requires a 2450 battery that has a recessed rim around the positive side. They don't make them like that anymore and I've tried numerous 2450 batteries and they just don't fit that's why I tried the thinner 2430 battery.

How long have you had the car? You can never lock the doors with the button, or unlock the convertible hatch, and the "door" button only unlocks the pass. door, not the drivers. It is only a passive system, does not work like standard fobs.

I've had the car for 6 yrs. but never had a working fob til I started playing around with one of mine a couple of weeks ago. I opened it to insert the battery and saw 2 buttons. One of them would cycle the door locks and much to my surprise the other button unlocked the convertible hatch on my '96.I tried it a couple of times to make sure. They are original Vette fobs that came with the car.

The convertible hatch is a surprise to me, convertibles came with a one button fob. I did not realize verts had a mechanism that a coupe fob would unlock. The clackclack sound you heard is an indication that you turned the system on or off. It is probably off right now, which is why the buttons don't seem to work. Hold the door button down for a while until you hear a clackclack and see if the hatch button responds. The door button does not lock the doors, and only unlocks the passenger door. It's covered in your owners manual.

I don't have a coupe fob, there is only a door symbol on the rubber area where you press, I believe coupe fobs show a door and hatch symbols. When I get back home I will take a picture of the outside and inside of the fob and if I can get the detail I will take a picture of the old dead battery.

I get it, there is a second button inside. Like I said, I didn't know there was a button inside, and had no idea it actually would unlock a vert hatch. Learned something new.
