Default Tire size opinion

Swapping out the factory saw blades, 17x8.5-front, 17x9.5 rear, for ZR1 replica 17x9.5 all around. I'm sticking with 285/40s I'm the rear and undecided on front tire size. I am leaning towards the same size up front, but I'm not sold just yet. 275/40s up front are my other choice, but it's a smaller overall diameter. Anyone have any input? Thanks

Only because you are asking for opinions ... If you're going to the trouble and expense of going to same size wheel on all 4 I think that you should stick with the same size tires on all 4 corners if only for the extended life of the tires being able to rotate them from front to back.

My car came with 9.5" on all four corners and I've run 275x40x17. Also take into account that different tires will have slightly different tread width. One of the things that I like about the GSD3 is they have a really pronounced bead protector that also serves as an effective rim protector.

Unless your seriously into autocross I sure wouldn't go with 285 up front although they will fit.

Makes sense, I'm also thinking they would track more on the highway. I guess I'm drawn to the fact that the 285/40 has the same sidewall size as the 255/45.

I like the square setup.

I have run all four 275/40/17 and all four 285/40/17. Both work great. i did not notice any difference in tracking down the highway.

I have put the square setup on 4 of my late C4's ( '94, '94, '95, '96)

Good luck.

The 275/40-17 tires may be easier to find compared to the 285/40. More brands and tread compound. Don't know what other cars used a 285/40 but if it isn't a common size, you could have problems finding them in a few years. For example, the 255/50-16 tire used on C3's is only available from 1 or 2 manufacturers, BFG won't have any available until the end of the month.

Using the same size tire at all 4 corners allows you to rotate the tires for better tread lift. As far as "tracking" ruts in the pavement are the primary cause and GM went to the narrower front tire to help resolve that. A change in the front alignment specs can help too.

The nitto 555 G2s come in both sizes. I generally stick to American products, but bang for your buck, nitto makes a great tire. I have E-rated 285/65/18s nitto Terra grapplers on my 07 Silverado. They have over 35k miles on them and have tons of mileage still left.

Your car will look kind of strange with shorter tires up front. I would get the same size at all four corners, and I would stick with 275s. I think they will look better and the car will sit lower overall.

OK, I've decided to go with same size all around. Either 285/40s or 275/40s. Anyone care to share pics of their cars with either size? Thanks.

275-40 Nitto's all around. Right click on the image and open in a new tab, then you can enlarge it a bit more.

Thank you. Anyone with 285/40s on all 4 corners?

They will be taller by about 1/2" or so.
