Painting my hood today, so what would you recommend for the type of paint? Rattle can, or ???

Gloss or flat is your preference, POR 15 would be overkill, I would probably use engine or grill paint out of a rattle can because of the heat.

I would not use Rustoleum of POR 15 (P aint O ver R ust 15, car is fiberglass......POR15 very expensive).

Rustoleum would not be easy to paint over due to its formulation unless you used more Rustoleum should you choose to redo it in the future.

I would probably use engine or grill paint out of a rattle can because of the heat.
I 2nd this motion.

So I decided to go with duplicolor high heat engine paint and high heat primer. So after wet sanding several times here it is in primer.
Tomorrow will be 1st coat of black.

If you are planning to hide the light wires in the support structure now would be a good time to drill the holes for routing (before you paint).

I used Krylon flat black on mine and it looks just like factory. Best part is if you need to touch it up you will never see it.

Love this, however I am not prepared to do anything other than rattle can. When I complete my garage, I hope to have my air compressor hooked up and paint tools etc..

Looks good so far. What exterior color is on the hood edge? Are you re-painting this also?

I have a white exterior so I couldn't paint the inner hood that color because of dirt and grime.

I think you need at least 2 more coats and maybe hold it back a couple more inches, and do full sweeps.

it will nice either way.
