96 LT4 "Reverse" Grand Sport
I thought id share a couple pictures of the progress ive made on my 96. I bought the car bone stock 96 with the intention of doing this theme. I have a low mile red gut Z51 GS that i throughly enjoy driving but cringe at every tick of the odometer so i decided find white LT4 to use as a driver. I found the wheels on this forum and got a set of oem flares from ebay. They along with the license plate cover have to be sprayed before they are permanently installed. Also once i get the blue center stripe on i have the repoduction pin stripe kit that i will apply (simply switching the orientation of the stripes will make them work on a white car, white on the inside blue on the outside. I will finish it off with the chrome badges on the hood and fuel door.
The front bumper obviously was a fail as the groove that runs directly above the front license plate is proving difficult for a novice like me but i think i have a solution and will give it another shot soon. The film is pretty easy to work with if you can get it onto the surface without it sticking together before you apply it. I ended up with one small bubble in the hood stripe which i will probably redo at somepoint due to my ocd. It would have been cake with a second set of hands bit im too impatient so i just went for it. The color of the the flim is cosmic blue and is made by 3M. It is a dead ringer for admiral blue.
I know this isnt an original idea as ive seen a couple on the web, but my guess is that i am the only person to have both which i think is kind of cool.

Thanks for the positive comments. This is my first attempt at striping a car with vinyl. Getting it centered and symetrical isnt easy

Nice, did you go with a single width stripe, or is does it have the width change down the length like the OEM stripe?
I've been considering doing a matte black GS stripe on my 92.

I like it. In my eyes it looks great. The fact that you have a Grand Sport and the reverse is really cool. Nice job.

I like the concept. I am a bit critical of the lines. You may have needed some help keeping it all straight.

One thing to help you with the 3M is to purchase their Primer It's an adhesive that will not damage clear coat, and then pre-stretch the material (vinyl) that way it shrinks to your curves. Primarily the front, the primer used inside the valley will force the vinyl to adhere without pulling up when you stretch it into place.
Also you had the correct idea using the knifeless tape. There are different thicknesses of the material to allow you to cut different angles, thin for curves, and thicker for straight lines. Having the thicker piece helps big time when doing stripes. I did the stripes and everything on my Mini Cooper using 3M 1080 CF
I dont do this professionally but I have wrapped some VERY difficult parts on my C4 and have learned what to do and what not to do. You'll get better every single time you wrap something. Feel free to message me if you need any tips or tricks.

The gloss black on the Mini is also Vinyl, It's shocking at how awesome this stuff is, and it can be polished just like paint. (although I would not trust a high speed buffing pad)
The roof is Paint, but everything else you see that's gloss black including the trim pieces are single pieces of Vinyl. You can really wrap almost anything with this stuff.

Thanks for the tips!!!
What messed me up on the hood lines was not leaving enough of the cut tape at the end of the hood to grab and double up to pull through the vinyl. I am very impatient so i went for it by myself.... as i stated the pin stripes will conceal the not so straight lines and had i not ended up with the small bubble in the middle of the hood i would probably leave it on, but i think im going to order another piece and do the hood over. I feel like the roof and rear bumper is perfect and i have a pretty good idea if what im doing at this point. I do know that i will get a second set of hands for the hood this time. Im going to be busy this weekend so it will likely not be finished until the holiday weekend.
