Is it really worth it, is everything else about the car real good?

If youre going to keep it forever then maybe-
I've checked 2 specialist in the Dallas area and both ball parked it at 10K for the motor.
The car was free and I have about 3k in it. The only thing wrong with it is the top has a half cut. Other than that it would be what I consider 90%

Sorry, no. I live in SouthLake so my "orb" tends to be Tarrant County.

3.5 quarts of oil is a lot of freaking oil in a week, have someone do a compression check on the engine, wondering if the car sat too long and form rust spots on the cylinder walls that are now pitted and causing oil to burn.

Have someone follow you in another car and go full throttle...they should see the blue smoke...although the droplets of oil on bumper is pretty much a tell-tale sign.

I don't think I would change to a manual, you're not going to gain that much in performance, enjoy the car.

My car had essentially no compression on two cylinders. The rings had rusted and stuck.

And it didn't burn 3.5 qts of oil in a week.

Budget worst case scenario. Engine rebuild and trans rebuild and add a couple grand for misc stuff and install.

just a thought, if you had to add 3.5 quarts of motor oil in a week you have to be leaking motor oil. If you were burning that much the plugs would be fouled out to hell and back. Check the china walls. After setting 10 years all the seals could be dried out and leaking.
