I never leave home without my Valentine 1 radar detector! A small roll of paper towels and some glass cleaner for behind the seat.
I use Rejex on my windshield to repel bugs from sticking. Some people use Rain-X (which I have also used, but Rejex works much better) A couple more Lb. of air in the tires for highway, an extra Qt. of oil to carry. I carry a small funnel and a micro-fiber towel in a ziplock bag inside the passenger side fender hole.(cut the bottom out of a plastic water bottle for an emergency funnel)
If you do have a gun to carry in the car, unless it is a hand cannon, they will usually fit in the armrest pocket. (Nobody but C4 people know about them.)
As for car theft protection, A manual transmission and the stock emergency brake in a C4 will stop all but another C4 owner!

Hi
Check your universal joints, half shafts especially close to wheels.
They tend to start squeaking at first, also the fuel pump they are cheap perhaps put a spare in the compartment.
I have dash cam with gps tracking, is great in case of an accident the video with gps speed is the proof you need.
Or in case a policeman tells you you were speeding , without video with gps speed stamp you cannot fight it .
Good luck, enjoy the road trip

And it's nice to get some feedback on the dashcam! Think I'll do it for the reasons you describe.

I hope you'll post during the trip, or at least an after-action report. Thanks for a fascinating thread

Late for the OP, but: make sure you know and are comfortable coaching a tow truck driver on how to load your car on to a flat bed.
I just realized that I don't know whether or not there are issues with a hook as well... Anyone?

We went the southernly route, through TX. It was so beautiful. People talk about "rugged beauty" and such, but the real experience is the immersion. It's so large that nothing describes it. It is the most alone you will ever feel in your life. You'll see a mountain in the distance and the scale is so large it is impossible to determine how far away it is. You drive at things for hours and you can't tell if you are any closer. Just amazing. I know that you are familiar with it, IHBD. But to anyone who isn't, it's a blast. You need to do this at least once. It's that much fun. Just go!
Stayed at the top of the RIO Hotel and Casino. Strip view. It's a great place and the prices are in the mid range, which is nice. Totally recommend it to anyone. (The Luxor is a total dump. OMZ! So is the Lego Palace.)
Pored over the car before leaving and replaced a wheel bearing, brakes and while bleeding the front caliper threads pulled out with the bleeder. Couldn't get a replacement in time so used a Dorman kit to fix it. (They work great!)
Car ran like a total champ. Powered straight through and was amazingly comfortable. C4 is a great road trip car. Had one mechanical, but I wouldn't even count it - PO cut the airbox neck where it meets the MAF for some reason. I had a few wraps of electrical tape there and it loosened in the desert heat, sucked in and blocked the MAF screen. Two footed it off the interstate into a casino parking lot. Went in and had lunch, fixed it with a piece of duct tape and was right back on the road.
Did get the dash cam. It's a cheaper one, but nice. I like it. This one.
It works well.

To anyone considering this, do it. It's something you'll want to do again and again and again. I can't explain what an awesome experience it is.
And thanks to you, IHBD. Your offer to help me if things went sideways meant a lot.. And believe me, when I was out there in the middle of nowhere about 2k miles from home, I was thinking about that a lot. lol.
I took car **** pics the whole way. Went through a couple of car museums on the trip, including the one at the Linq. They're around here on a flash drive someplace.
Thanks IHBD and thanks to everyone who helped me with this. It was a fantastic thing. More fun than I ever imagined it could be. There's a great bunch on CF.
