Starting to understand.
92 Lt1,
Well I think i'm starting to understand things a little better??? One minute I'm shopping for FOR SALE signs and pushing to the dam car to curb for trash day ? The next day I'm out in the garage with a muti meter for Christ sake trouble shooting. Who does that ? I went from flipping out over changing an air filter , to... screw it. Tear in all down, what could go wrong ? It can't possibly get any worst ??? LMAO ! I don't even blink an eye anymore when someone tells me the part will be in 3 days and takes two days to install. I laugh tears of joy now. Anyway... I have never been so into a car on such a high level as this ? I must be crazy ? Next time somebody waves to me from another vette ? I'll probably throw my arm out waving so hard ? Lol. Again.... I must be nuts to put myself through this ? Maybe I should get a dog instead ???

Great story reminds me of that crazy wacko red head I dated many years ago.
I married her + I now have a red headed step child that embraces the moniker.
Got the dogs 3 of the 4 are rescue.

On the satisfaction scale there are few things that can beat figuring out what's wrong, taking it apart, fixing it and then driving your car. In our world of instant and faux gratification working on your car is a thing of beauty. You might have a thousand friends on facebook, but ask for help working on your car and you'll find out who your friends really are!

I just have to keep reminding myself that even though it looks new and shiny, it's a 22 year old Chevy with 126k on the clock. Things are bound to happen. The upside is I can still work on it. I'd be afraid to pop the hood on a newer one.
It all becomes worth it when I'm driving it.....especially with the targa off so I can't hear all the rattlers! ;-)

Some people enjoy wrenching more than others. Some people are simply better at wrenching, or mechanical stuff is more intuitive to them and it comes naturally. Then there are those who enjoy it and are very good at it. We call them mechanics. By the sound of things, you sir, have become a mechanic. The fact that these cars are so fun to drive only adds to the enjoyment and satisfaction of fixing any problems that arise. You are not crazy. Different people like different things, and as long as nobody is getting hurt besides your busted knuckles, who's to say you are wrong? Do what you want to do, and enjoy doing it. It's so great to hear stories about people discovering something that they love.
I can't describe how happy I was after installing the reconditioned clutch hydraulics, took it for a test drive and everything worked exactly as it is designed, smooth and strong and a sheer pleasure. It felt like a new car. Still working flawlessly 2 years later. One of my best wrenching successes ever!

Welcome to the madness.
I think working on them makes them "my" cars. The satisfaction from fixing something is half the fun of owning a specialty car.
Like scuba717 and DGXR both stated about the satisfaction, I actually said "wow" after I fixed the flywheel/clutch on mine. It went from a bad chatter when started moving and a vibration at 3k rpm. After replacement it drove like new.
Have some fun with it.

Drifting
You know there are a hundred others just like you, saying the same thing, on their Camaro forum, Nova Forum, Chevelle forum, Trans am forum, and so on. This addiction has no limit to make model or style of car.

I couldn't take it anymore after throwing thousands at mine i finally relented and sold it for a fraction of what i had into it. Not looking back I am picking up a 350z roadster this afternoon , hopefully this doesn't behave the same.

The C4 is a really special car. It's one of those cars that invites you to fix it. It's not like a newer car where you feel like you need special diagnostic equipment, you can just fix it. Sometimes, with a hammer. And it feels really good.
The car is designed such that *most* things are fairly accessible. The giant clamshell hood offers you tons of room to work on things. And then, once you've fixed whatever was wrong, it's great to drive. Can't forget that virtually very issue that could happen has been documented with a fix and most a DIY. Plus parts are fairly inexpensive, and easy to get ahold of.
Really, such a special car. Once more people realize how great they are, we're going to largely be priced out of the market on them.
