Any pics without the breadbox?
I am thinking of getting the "breadbox" delete panel from MidAmerica and I would like to see a pic of a Vette with the delete panel installed.
And what is the purpose of the breadbox anyway? I always thought it looked rather odd......

I'm thinking, one day in the far future when i'm done with all my mods, about putting a computer screen in the place of the breadbox to give real-time engine data and allow me to reprogram via a laptop.
But i guess id have to custom build or significantly modify the ECM.

It is VERY ugly!!!... I've had a lot of first time passengers ask "What is THIS"?!?!
I'm planning to take it out and put in the flat front panel that has the map pocket on it....

I can send you a picture of what my car looks like without the 'bump'
It looks a lot cleaner for sure.
I like the laptop idea.
Anyway, I'll take a pic tonight of my sans breadbox and email it to you tomorrow.
I think the original idea was for the "oh $#!7" bar, but that probably wouldn't meet gov standards so they made it a pillow. (I have actually no idea)

I've read somewhere... that it was where a passenger side airbag was planned to be incorporated at some later point in the C4 model run... However... I don't believe they actually included one until 1990 when the new interior design came out....

I have the panel with the map pocket and it is a much cleaner look. Plus it actually hold maps and other stuff.

I'd like to get rid of mine - perhaps an LCD screen there or something to watch TV/DVD's on? I heard replacing the breadbox with the flat panel is a real PITA.

I put in the MAD panel yesterday. I like it a lot better. Definitely a PITA job though. The AC vent hose that comes with the kit is useless (too stiff) as it puts too much outward pressure on the panel. So... be careful to not rip up your old hose when you remove the bread box. I reused mine and it worked much better. Wife is away with the digital camera. I'm sure someone else will post a pic by Sunday when she comes back, but if not remind me and I'll shoot you one. Happy to answer any other questions.

This is the one from Ecklers with the map pocket. The pocket was a cheesy nylon so I made a new one out of black vinyl and had CORVETTE embroidered on it. It is really pretty easy to change if you spend 5 minutes up front pulling off the top dash pad; doing the mod it with it in place is not fun.

I have the Mid-Am kit in the garage with the new carpet kit. I hope to start on it by Thursday or so--for sure this weekend. I'll take pics during the replacement and do a write up and post it on the forum when I have it done.
