I have not, but how do you expel a Penix 97 from here? That would be priceless!

It was my understanding that GM decided to do away with the ZR-1 because the C5 was coming out. They made the 92-95 model years in specifically limited amounts, and it was not based on orders or demands. It is not a coincidence that 93, 94, and 95 all had 448 produced each year.

Had GM kept the ZR-1 in 1996, the "old style Corvette" would have had 50 more horsepower. That is not a good thing when you are introducing a new body style.

I don't remember where I read all of this, but that is what sticks in my mind. The LT1 hurt it's sales, but was not the " deal killer."

Truth be known, Lotus had an LT5-III 5.7L planned for 95/96 that made 550 chp. That would have put a hurt on STOCK LS1, 2, 3, &7S. (Kinda makes ya wonder "what if" GM went with that motor...let alone what would the world have been like had the LT5 been upped to 6.2L w/ vvt etc., etc.,...)

I talked with Lingenfelter at Bloomington Gold a few years ago. He was working on a 40th anniversary ZR1 and was thinking about building the LT5 version that was in the works but not released. I don't know if he did that or what became of his ZR1.

That would be an awesome car.

Graham Behan, formerly engineering for Lotus on the LT5 project, now working for Lingenfelter.

He showed the motor and spoke about the project at the 2016 Bowling Green gathering. The motor was friggin awesome - VVT, and other tricks.

This is the motor he showed us in 2016... Note the single LARGE runners.
Motor uses dynamic fuel pressure so that a single injector is used w/o loosing low speed performance.
The TB is actually use on the Ford Mustang GTs (IIRC).

As I understand it, this is the ZR-1 project with that gen-III motor installed at the 2016 Lingenfelter gathering, late in 2016.

Titillating to say the LEAST!!
