Not cheap enough.

Are you doing the top or having someone do it?
I'm OK with the price (even with the Top messed up) however the rest of the car looks a bit rough. New paint, interior work and some on the engine. You are looking at dropping several thousand(s) to get her up to speed.
Don't say "no" just know that you are getting into a bit of a rehabilitation effort.

For me paint and body is the most important thing, cause it's the one thing I can't do and don't want to learn, and a job done right is 5-7k. So five thousand to get the paint right, and another 7500 for the rest if you do a lot of the work yourself. Of course I'm talking show room quality in the end, you could always cut corners. C4 is an interesting car because you can find excellent specimens for 10k, and ones that have been rode hard and hung out wet still can bring close to 5k. Yet it will cost you 10k to make a 5k car look like a 10k car

Don't think it's a good buy for that amount of money. You're probably looking at a few thousand to get the car back into decent shape. Not sure what a new top would cost, but it probably needs weatherstripping too. The pics of the left side of the engine shows lots of wires tied up with zipties and no harness covers. Lots or red wires going over the valve cover too. This may turn out to be some electrical issues. At 108K miles on the clock, I would be concerned about the condition of the clutch assembly.
Looks like it also has the Selective Ride Control option (RPO FX3). If it's not working, it could cost a thousand or more to get it back working correctly, although many owners just substitute a good quality shock and disable the FX3 controller.
With the tear in the back window, there might be a chance of moisture getting inside and then you could wind up finding mold or mildew.
I would suggest passing on this one and search for one in better condition.

And that motor looks more like 200k miles than 100k, after you been looking at them for enough years you can kinda guess the mileage by appearance, I see folks around hear trying to pass motors like that off as low mileage cars with only 30k miles on the odometer. If your gonna try to fake the mileage you can at least clean up the valve covers to give it a lower mileage appearance.......

Plus, the interior is dirty. Dirty cars mean the owners didn't have enough pride to keep them clean.
If you are too lazy to pull out the vacuum, the bet is you are too lazy to keep up with maintenance.

To be fair though, a triple black l98 6 speed drop top (if all original) may be hard to find. I believe it would take 10 grand to get it show ready and that would be if you did a lot of the work yourself. Doing a lot of work yourself can be very satisfying.....so if your ready for that, then why not offer him 3500? Worst he can do is say no and you walk.....maybe even start out at 3 and bump it up to 3500 before you walk. If its truly an original triple black 6 it may become collectible. But in its current condition lots of folks would part it out.......

A top will run $1,500-2k, depending on the weatherstripping. I would suggest doing a glass rear window conversion as well.
If you are looking for a show car, keep looking. If you want a fun driver that you can work on yourself it might not be a bed deal for under $4k. As midlifecrisis1979 said, a triple black 6MN Vert is not easy to find.

I think it' priced well, maybe even cheap. It' a 6 speed convertible with a pretty decent interior ( seats look good to me). It' no show car, but it' a great driver quality car. It' got 10k on it, it'l never be a show car.
Even if you spent 1k to get the top fixed (bet it' be less than that), for 5500 you'd have a great driver quality 6 speed L98 car. That' a deal.

He didn't even clean it up for sale. you could offer less and I bet he would take it. I ived most of my life in NH so I actually know what to look for as I'm sure you do, too. Definitely needs to go on a lift for close inspection. Top looks aged but no rips. You can get a glass replacement window kit for it. Even if it wasn't ripped, i'd do that anyway.
to me, it would depend on whats going on underneath. If they drove it in the typical salt and sand, left it outsie, etc. I'd definitely pass. Aluminium can oxidize and pit badly in good 'ol NH nevermind all the steel. inside, beside being filthy, looks ok. so if the under the car bits and pieces along with the frame were good, I'd ****** it up for $3,500.
If I didn't paint it myself, I know a great painter over by the race track. Depends on what you feel you can tackle yourself. For me, the all black would have me all over it. However, I have a great condition 94 vert six speed.

I saw that ad too. I think it might be worth the money IF you can do most of the work and if it looks OK in person. No way to tell from a few CL pics. A 6-spd convert is not something you come across every day for $4500.
