1989 Value?
Hello! I have been looking for a C2 but ran into a beautiful 1989 Convertible with 6 speed trans and only 16000 miles. The car really looks like a new car. They are asking $18000 for the car. I have been away from the C4 cars since I sold my '86 a number of years ago. I thought prices were soft now so the question is, is this car worth the price? I really hate to be upside down if I want to sell it after a couple years. Thanks for your input.

I couldnt justify spending that on an 89. I wouldn't give more than about 10-12K for it.
Perhaps if you intend to keep this thing as an investment for 30 years, but even then, I wouldn't.

The seller is banking on your emotions.
$18k is way too much.
Nowhere should the word only be in front of 160k mi
There are a lot of newer, cleaner, lower mile cars out there. Keep looking you'll find one.

Arizona should have many fine examples and consider some of your neighborhood states as well. Guy by me in FL has an aqua over white vert 6spd with 30k for $8500. Everything is relative. For $18k you can pony up a few more G's and get a ZR1

Question is it worth it to you? If you got your heart set on a low mileage l98 six speed red on red, chances are you won't come across another one anytime soon. For a person who has one permission slip from their spouse to purchase, and one space in the garage, I say go for it. If your a c4 monger like myself then no way, you could purchase 3 nice ones for that price or 10 beaters......

I paid way too much for my 96 last May. Showroom condition with 27k miles. I don't care. It was local and I could see a drive it. I did not buy caring if I could sell for what I paid. I wanted a very nice C4 and a few or maybe more than a few thousand was not that important. Don't believe everyone when they tell you that 16k miles showroom C4's are all over the place for 12k price. They are not. Dan

Think about all the people that buy new Corvettes. What do they pay 60-100k? And then they drive maybe 4-5K miles a year. They may pay every year more than what you are looking at spending. Do you think they have way way more fun driving their new one.

After looking at about all the websites that sell C4 vettes and scouring many CL cities I have the impression that C4 sales are soft but for low mile '86-'89 model convertibles, people are asking big money. Have seen multiple cars over 20 grand and many inthe high teens. That many be good news for C4 fans as if the low miles cars are climbing high, the rest many follow soon! I should have posted this link before but here is the car. I am in AZ so if I went to Chicago, it would be to buy it, not just look.

Lets call it a draw Dan, that is one SPECIAL CORVETTE!!!! Love the colors and it looks like new. I assume you paid my kind of money for a car you really wanted. I re-read all your posts, you make such good sense to me. I literally could buy a brand new red Corvette and not enjoy it more than this like-new Vette. I have had 4 C4's and always find myself looking into them again and again. This would be my final C4 purchase and a life time keeper. I am so glad I made this post, it has really cleared my mind

That is a very fine specimen. I believe that someone with less time and more money will pay close to asking price for that car. Let's face it, for some folks time is money and they don't have days weeks and months to search for a car. Nostalgia is setting in for the c4, and some kid who loved that car and is an adult now making bank will pay up. As far as being upside down in a few years and looking for an investment, your probably better off finding a c2, whoever cherrypicked that car outa some old mans garage is probably gonna make a pretty penny on the flip leaving no room for you to do the same in a few years.
