Watching it a little while ago. Damn, did you guys see the Ruby with A4 and 34k miles? Sold for $18k.
84 red/black 4+3 with 2,500 miles sold for $11,500
87 auto vert, white, 25k miles went for $9,500.
Post up if I missed any. I know you guys get annoyed talking values, but it's interesting IMO.

A recent thread about a low miles 84 comes to mind.
Low mileage C4's may start to recover their value.
A good sign

BJ is a blip on the radar and should not be used as a guide.

What source do you recommend? Hemmings? Car Trader? ebay?

Craigslist does not show what a car sold for...how is that a guide. BJ is a spectacle but it also shows that somebody wanted those cars plus the Vig to purchase it.

if you just look once and done, no it's not a guide. If you regularly follow craigslist in your area specifically for corvettes you'll notice what keeps getting relisted and what doesn't. I'm always looking for parts so when I see " '93 anniversary edition with 120K" listed for $9K I know I'm gonna see that relisted often, probably at a lower price if the owner really wants to sell it.

Barrett is a rich man’s hobby. Some of the bidders don’t care if the pay $5K or $10K. It’s still a cheap car to them. And most of the cars picked to be at their auction are VERY nice examples, not your normal DD type cars that are beat up.

I saw a 75 convertible c3 go for 19k. It had the honor of the lowest hp v8 corvette ever made. Its just a matter of a few years until the c4 passes those values as they become classics. Right now they are in between being too old for a DD, but not old enough for a classic.

I liked (no loved) the black custom C2 with the blower...and Viper tail.
Wow.
If only I'd been there with $60k burning a hole in my pocket.
Or...maybe it was Mecum. LOL I'd post a pic (from my phone) but this is for C4's. Did I ever mention I started out wanting a C3?
Not too many vettes I'd snub...in good condition.

Using craigslist to value cars is like using thrown away food to price restaurant food.
most of the stuff on craigslist is utter crap. You may see one or two decent cars, but those are usually people too cheap to use a real site to advertise their car, and either get raped on price or are trying to sell said crap.
In general, if there's not a cost tonlist, or attached to a group/club/forum, I wouldn' trust it as a real value indicator.

Is there a lot of " crap " as you say for sale on any craigslist site of course but there are also just as many legit and worthwhile listings. Buyers need to do their homework as on any site but I have found craigslist to be a great source to find what I am looking for whether it be building supplies or a local vehicle.
To me craigslist has replaced the local news papers classified ads only it also provides photos. Being that it is available free to the seller will likely mean you will have a bit of every level of quality of things for sale but if you know what you are looking for it is a great tool for putting sellers and buyers together.
If I had for example a '96 Grand Sport for sale I probably would not list it on craigslist as the average person here would have no idea what they were looking at but for the average vette why not? It only takes one buyer to get your item sold and how many people are willing to travel all weekend to buy a $5K to $10K vehicle ?
What I like about craigslist is you can bring up something you are looking for on searchtempest.com starting with your zip code and working out from there as far as you are willing to travel. Sometimes a 4wd pickup might be several thousand dollars cheaper with less mileage then ones in your local market based on many factors but it gives you the ability to compare shop outside you local market.

Back to BJ for valuations. If any of you go, it is a massive circus, and a lot of it is bravado of buying something from BJ and boasting to your friends. Bidders are shoveled booze to get them to loosen up the purse strings. And what a car sells for on a Saturday at BJ will not guarantee what it is really worth on Monday.

I know I view my C4 ZR-1 like it's thrown away food.
That pretty much sums up C4's

How long did it take to sell your 91? And how much did you have to reduce your asking price by?
And case in point here with BJ results and the mighty ZR-1
Car sold for 38,500 with buyers premium.
http://www.barrett-jackson.com/Event...TTE-ZR1-195737
It's now for sale at less than 30.

Somebody scored a bargain at BJ.

A C4 is only as valuable as the buyer will pay.
BJ has a few at every show and those are usually VG examples.
AND some of those are a bargain.

I'm happy to see sellers getting good prices on their C4's. That's a good thing! But sad to say their are always a few people who live in the basement reading C/L ad's and assuming that's the best they can do to sell their car. When I sell a car, I research many other enthusiast sites and come up with an average price which is always higher than some of the stuff you find on C/L. On average I think many C/L car ads are less than quality cars, and the prices of them indicate it right off the bat. There may a few bargain prices there, but none I'd feel condident in buying.
