That's definitely an interesting tire. I would at least consider it. My guess is it's similar in grip and weather performance to the Nitto, possibly with a little bit "softer sidewall" feel to (i.e., it operates at larger slip angles - 25 years ago that was a trait of M/T street radials, and many people like this, including me).

My own needs were more along the lines of what FAUEE wrote: round and safe and get me where I need to go on the street. But it's worth noting that Riken is a subsidiary of Michelin that started out as a Japanese tire company. It is not a Chinese company. I mean, they might actually be built there now - I don't know - but they aren't designed there.

I have Continental Extreme Contact DWs on my'96 and have had them for a couple years now (three seasons, no Colorado winters, that is what Jeeps are for!). I am real happy with them for normal driving, ride and wear. Good tires for a decent price and Discount Tire services them.

I put a set of BFGoodrich G-FORCE COMP-2 A/S - SIZE: 275/40ZR17 on my 1992 C4. Here in California my C4 gets driven all year round, so I wanted an all season tire. The price was nice, and they got good ratings. For just drivng around with no track days these work great.

I ran them for ten years. Great all weather tire.

I tried a set of the Continental DW in 275/40/17 and like them a lot.

I stumbled on a closeout for the Continental DW 285/40/17 for $80.75 per tire last year, so I bought a set of them too. I couldn't pass up the price. (I am cheap). The date codes were only about 6 months old, so they were pretty fresh ones for a closeout.

I also have put the Hankook K2 Evo on my C5. I like them a lot too. Pretty reasonable price for a decent tire.

I generally look at Tire Rack and Discount Tire Direct to compare tires and prices. (note shipping included with Discounttiredirect, but not with Tirerack)

Good luck.

I would have bought those, too!

I have a '92 with 60K. Currently running Sumitomo HTRZ II. Aggressive grip, tread and handling. Only minor gripe is noise over Eagles. These are summer only, but we don't get much snow in WNC. Value is undeniable, getting 40K+ from easily, '92 is last year tires can be rotated front to back. About $400 a set. There is an A/S version as well.

I see you've gotten good recommendations, but man did I ever cringe when I saw you were still driving on tires from 1992...I wouldn't drive another 100' on them at this point! They may have looked fine with tread, but they become dangerous to drive on 15 years ago...anyone else on very old tires, be smart, be safe!

Last year, I put 6,000 miles on tires from 05, they were hard, but no cracking. This spring, one look at the rears and into the tire shop I went.
