Hi Guys,

My collector car policy is up for renewal and I was wanting some input on what you think the market value for my C4 is:

Black/black
LT4 6 Speed
69k Miles
ZR-1 Collector Style Wheels
Magnaflow Axle Back Exhaust
Painted roof
New rotors and caliper covers
All new weather stripping
Aluminum radiator
Lowered 1"
No leaks
Interior is almost perfect.

The paint is like glass with just a few minor flaws, invisible to most. I really think it's a top 10% car.

What do you think?

Just for condition wise, this is my 4th Corvette in addition to other exotics. Here's some cool pics of the past: 1990 TR, 1994 RT/10 next to friends 1991 Diablo, 1998 Red/Tan Manual C5. I've always taken very good care of my vehicles.

I'll respectfully disagree and say 15kish. The Lt4 is a big draw, Black/black is THE color to have, lower miles and it looks to be in "drive away" condition.

That's kind of where I was thinking. $10k seems way too low for that caliber. So many on eBay are so junky with rusted rotors and ripped seats and they sell for $10kish.

I plan on keeping the car forever because I absolutely love it. With the wheels (and the offsets) and lowering it really looks like a ZR-1 Clone. That's what I was going for with the raised red lettering in the back

On eBay, they ask for $10kish, doesn't mean they actually sell for that.

In local craigslist, I've noted several '85 or something with all kinds of obvious this or that nasty asking $10k.

-Who knows what else in 22 years has been done and redone?

Ask your policy holder what is worth. To me as a buyer or seller I know that car is about 10k as pointed out before. Just my opinion though.

Insure the vehicle for the most value the insurer will allow. Classic insurance is quite inexpensive, so get the most for your buck.

My 92 auto with 57,000 miles, I put $11k for replacement value, insurance costs $250 year limited to no more than 6,000 miles a year.

I would agree with this. Your car is driver quality, it may be very nice driver quality, but it's no collector item. You didn't mention if it had z51 or not, if not, I'd say it has a bit less desirability from that.

The question isn' what it's worth, it' what is worth paying for monthly to you.

I did not realize you wanted this for insurance. The higher you insure, the more it costs. Go for whatever you think, they will let you know

Well, I have a $25,000. replacement value on my 86 Coupe for under $600./yr, no mile limitation...

That just screams for you to be texting while driving and get in a fender bender... you could replace it twice over for that much unless it's a B2K.

As a buyer, market value around $12k.

For insurance value I'd call it $15k

I think you have a $9K to $10K Corvette. Its not a Grand Sport or a CE and the miles are a little high for a collector car (they want sub 10k mile hanger queens generally). If your insurance carrier will go for a $15K valuation that is where I'd be. Nice car though!

I would tell you to put the highest replacement cost/value you can think of (the number of Benjamins that would satisfy you if the car was totally destroyed) and submit that to your insurer. Realize that you will be paying incrementally more for each $xxx thousand you want.

Believe me, your insurance underwriter will get back to you if you are out of the ballpark (too high). Then negotiate.

It is a real nice example but hard to put in collector status as they made way too many of them to be a real collectable. The reality is if you sell a car then new owner is not buying memories or your hours waxing and cleaning just what it looks like today. The agent should know more about what your is worth nationally than you do. They do have alarms that go off when your coverage request is unreasonable. Like taking out a million dollar policy on a 250k house.

good point and true. If you ask for too much they may ask you to get it professionally appraised that isnt cheap

Say if you did insure it for 20k and it had 12k damage would you really want it back? I wouldnt
Insured mine for 25k less than appraisal even thats sketchy should something happen.

When I used Hagerty years ago I believe they used "agreed upon value" to determine the insured value. For what its worth...
