Help with shipping bigger items???
What is the best way to ship a transmission or rear end or engine??? Do all fluids need to be drained? What is the best method for shipping? I have a rear end and transmission from 91 C4 thinking about selling. Thanks.

I have read about people shipping large items on a pallet using Fastenal. Supposedly very reasonable rates.

Bill Boudreau (ZFdoc) sent me my ZF trans in a reinforced plywood crate which had supports made of 2x4s and 2x6s, notched to fit under and over the top, clamping the trans in place.
I don't know if Bill has any crates he'd sell. But, if the trans is going to him, he may send you a crate to put the trans back in?
I shipped my LT5 (short haul) on a pallet and blocks with steel bands to secure it in place. Easy-pleasy way to load and unload onto the bed of my pickup with a fork-lift OR engine hoist!
Good post!

LTL for 'used' auto-parts get serious quick - take notice of the NO INSURANCE on the Fastenal 'front page'!
Sell local!! Many less potential complications.
