Let me down today.
The wife and I was on the way to breakfast this morning in the '89. Stopped by the car wash to rinse off the pollen and left it running. When I got back in my wife said it started running rough. Never had any problems before. Died before I could get it home. Only about a mile away from home. Debated on calling a tow truck but instead called a buddy. Found the fuel pump was bad. Replaced it in the parking lot (super easy). Back on the road for less money than tow bill.

I guess it's nice to be handy, and parts store with the correct part, hope you installed the sock, and if you looked closely at sending unit, did it have any corrosion! I hope not, cause that down the road can cause problems, trust me I know, from past experience.

Good job replacing the fuel pump in a parking lot.

Yes replaced the sock. Would have replaced it anyway but if you don't replace it you void the lifetime warranty. Sending unit looked great.

We have AAA Gold. Think we get a couple 200+ mile tows with it. Haven't needed it but, it's great piece of mind. Especially considering it's most likely going home. Worth every penny. The wife got AAA books for every state we went through bringing the Vette home plus a few custom routes planned out in these great spiral bound books. So many great extra services they do for free that people don't know about or forget.

23 year old (+) fuel pumps do fail enough that I'd want to have a spare onboard for long trips "just in case".
Luckily for ZR-1 drivers there are 2 pumps; a primary and a secondary. So, the pumps can be cross-connected to run on the secondary pump until you can get somewhere more convenient to deal with it.
