I need advice buying a 1996 CE Vert Lt4
Hi everyone, this is my first post to the forum.
I came across a 1996 collectors edition convertible with the LT4. The car has 110,000 miles, 2 owners, and is a southern car.
I test drove the car, AC compressor didn't turn on, ASR light is on (turned off after test drive), decent paint, decent interior.
Tires are like new, but are dated from 2004, so need replacing. Idles a bit high, just over 1000 rpm.
I'm not sure what a fair price would be. Thinking $8,000............any thoughts? Opinions?

If you got that car for 8k I would say that' a steal. An LT4 vert is probably worth 11 to 12k minimum, even with some minor issues like you described.

Low a/c pressure will cause the light to blink and not come on. Could be a leak in system usually easy to fix, but some parts could be unobtanium like a/c condenser....
id say thats a great deal for a 6spd vert. They are rare and with lt4 its the best c4 vert they made
face it most people are so lazy, they would rather have 30 less HP with the lt1 just so they get the automatic and dont have to shift geats - esp vert owners

Let's face it, some posters take great pains to knock a/t drivers and I assume their brains are a bit lazy at thinking the reasons for not wanting to drive a manual....health, stop and go traffic commuting, just plain don't need the extra HP, etc. etc. etc.
Anyway....good luck and keep us posted...

How's the foot room with a stick on the C4.

Did you give it the 'clutch test'? What if it's original?

Does it idle high all the time, or only after it's warmed up? Granted mine's an LT1, but I know the only time it's ever idled high was when I had a terrible misfire - so does it twitch/shake any like it's missing?
For a convertible 6spd LT4, I'd say buying it is a no-brainer - assuming the value of the c4 goes up and you ever want to sell it (though why would you), it'll probably be worth a good amount - heck, it's still worth a decent price even with the few problems you mentioned. Try and see if you can talk them into the 8's or around there, but yea I'd say go for it. You got a link or pictures for it?

The slam is actually really on GM.
GM was too lazy to emissions test the lt4 and automatic together (from what i have heard) to certify an lt4 automatic .
could you imagine how fast and consistent an AUTOMATIC version of the lt4 would have been at the dragstrip ? It would have prob been faster than the manual ! (There is that more PC ?)

I seriously need to work at being lazy?
I drive a vert and it's a manual.
O.P. Good luck. I'm pulling for you. Hopefully the AC issue is one of the easy fixes. That car would be tons of fun and miles of smiles!!
