1994 clunking sound around trans area.
I have a 1994 corvette with the LT1 engine and the 4L60E 4 speed suyo and im hearing a concerning clunking sound from what i suspect to be the trans but maybe the torque converter area. It doesnt speed up with light revs while in park and tbh i have heard or listened for it while driving but ive heard it while at stops. The video has the sound pretty clear and as i move the mic further away from yhe trans it seems to go quieter. Im not entirely sure whats making the noise and need to know where to progress. Im willing to have the trans pulled but only if im sure i have to and no im not gunna get rid of it if your just gunna tell me to do that.
heres the vid with the sound under the vette:
any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks -Blade

If your car was in park or neutral the trans wasn’t turning to make any nosies. So it’s either your engine or something related to the crankshaft spinning.

oh **** im an idiot. Your right. Well my next question being will the torque converter still rotate while in park and could it be what im hearing. The noise doesnt seem to increase in speed as i rev so i kinda ruled that out. Infact its alot hatder to keep track while revving but im not sure if its cuz i cant hear it as well over the revs or if revving helps the problem or maybe im just crazy

Could be your exhaust system, insides of the catalytic converter bouncing around. They sometimes rattle when worn out.

Ok i found the issue for the noise. I ended up taking a stethiscope to probe around for component to component to find what was emitting the knock/clunk. I found that its coming from the exhaust from behind just behind the pretty mush next to the bell housing. Probably the cat getting old and rattling and making it. Im just gunna get a catless exhaust system as i planned on getting one anyway. Ill respond once again after doing so to be 100 with yall on that being the solution. I appreciate the help.
