Default 1985 Factory Lock Nuts

So the tire shop messed up my factory lock nuts on my 1985 Vette (all stock). Does anyone know where I can get factory replacements (or even better, originals?) The tire shop will be paying for it. I want to keep the car as stock as possible so originals would be the best, unless there's a good reason to go with something else.

Thanks!

The dealer maybe able to help. Factory locks were made by Armcor. It maybe possible to order what you need. There maybe a registration card in owners package with ordering instructions and lock code.

Awesome, I'll call the dealership.

I threw away my locking lug nuts years ago. They are a pain for the owner and the tire shop and they will not stop anyone that really wants your wheels.

I put some chrome nuts on mine. They contrast nicely with the black on the front wheels.

I understand-I have a 100% factory Vette though and I want to have them and I'm pissed that the shop screwed them up. They owe me replacements even if I don't use them, I think. I would much rather they tell me they WON'T do it rather than trying and messing them up.

If I were to put different nuts on there, could I get non-lock nuts that would just match the rest and that i could add those black covers for?

The only sure-fire way I've found to prevent damage while a vehicle of mine is being worked on by others is to never let it out of my sight. Stupid chit like putting an impact on the factory lock tool can be prevented by stopping the guy before he pulls the trigger. But you have to be there to see it.
Yup I was watching. They also used a claw hammer to remove the weights from the wheels which marred them up, and one guy sat on my hood and left scratches. I was PISSED and I've let them know that. I buffed out the scratches but it took a lot of work. The wheels...well I'm not sure what to do about them. The shop won't take responsibility and while I would have a case in small claims court, the amount of time/effort to do that probably outweighs getting them fixed.

I very well might get non-locking replacements (where can you get those, that match the factory?) but I want to have the lock nuts too. Especially as like I said the shop did such an awful job I'm not letting them off the hook for this one.

That's BS.. I understand things happening and the shop taking responsibility for those unforeseen things, but sitting on the hood isn't unforeseen. It's stupid and it is disrespectful.

It would be 100% fair for them to paint that hood after they sat on it and scratched it.

If this is how they treat people's vehicles, maybe they should find something else to do for a living?

You'd think the place was run by an encampment of homeless people or something.

I can't really PROVE that they did it, not like I recorded it or anything. It's annoying but they won't take responsibility and I don't think I have legal recourse. I can say that Discount Tire will NEVER get my business again, for any vehicle.

I have the facory lugs but the black cap does not fit. It needs a bigger cap I cannot find anywhere. I even called McGuard.

I have a factory set of locks for my 85. I don't use them. Make me an offer.

The OP could very well still have the caps. Maybe he'll let us know

I have a set from my early 84, they weigh about 3 times what a lugnut weighs. There was a tsb on that for causing imbalance issues.

So I got a call from the shop-apparently they called the GM dealer and the dealer had the factory lock nuts. They're going to get them shipped to them and I'll go pick them up.

I still have the black caps so I'm ok there. Thanks for the offers of the factory lugs-if the ones they ordered aren't right for whatever reason, I'll definitely take you up on them.

Sounds like regardless I may want to look at just getting 4 more factory non-locking lugs and put those on. I know the lock nuts don't do anything and are in general just a pain but the OCD part of me wants everything to be perfect...

Thanks again for all the help, I'll let you know if there are any more issues.

what would you want for the factory lock nuts? And do you have any spare regular nuts as well? I may still just put the regulars on. I also need the lock itself. Is it all in good condition? I’ll have the shop pay for them as long as they’re not ridiculous so let me know what you want to get out of them.
