Another C4 going on antique plates today. Who else runs those?
I've had enough with paying and paying... Antique plates in my state are $50/life and my 1993 Corvette finally (since Jan) qualifies.
No more inspections, emissions tests, or anything. Who else runs antique plates?
Hard to believe these are now antique, BTW. I remember buying my 1989 Corvette brand new, and this was long before they were C4, and other C... designations. We simply called them, Corvettes.

Many states in recent years have imposed quite a few restrictions for antique plates because a lot of cars are lasting longer.
For my state of NH
Basically I can't even drive to the corner store for milk...cops don't really care right now (that could change though if the state wants more ticket money)...but insurance companies do should you be the cause of an accident.
For my state of NH
Any motor vehicle, including a truck, regardless of its weight, over 25 years old which is maintained only for use in exhibitions, club activities, parades, and other functions of public interest.

I have classic plates on mine. Like above ^^^^ Texas has restrictions on antique plates. You can only drive the car to and from events (car shows) or the repair shop. I don't know how Texas is on enforcing the law but I go ripping around in my Corvette all the time and will no doubt have some contact with law enforcement at some point and didn't want it to be an issue. I still have to get it inspected but because of its age I don't have to worry about emissions testing.

It is frustrating to see vehicles, like a jalopy w/ antique plates, or like in Maryland where the rule is 20 years, a 1998 Honda Civic w/ antique plates (I am not in MD, tho).
Ohio has it right, with their "Collector" plates. Vehicle must be in one of 3 books, showing collectibility, and then otherwise, if a significant vehicle, it could also qualify.
The age thing in my state is 25 years, and I have enough vehicles - and have to prove I have another for daily use, so I qualify.

Collector plates Minnesota.
Yes, I run them ...
Restrictions: Vehicles registered in any of the collector classes are restricted to operation solely as a collector's item and cannot be used for general transportation purposes.

Michigan, since 1956, the state has issued historic and authentic license plates for antique vehicles used in parades, fairs, car shows, swap meets, and other events. A historical vehicle must be: 26 or more years old. Owned solely as a collector's item.

here in florida, any car over 30 years old is automatically classified as and antique when registered. when you get license plates, you have the option of getting florida, blue, "antique" plate or running any standard plates. the only advantage, it's around $21 per year to renew the plate vs $37 or so, for other vehicles. when I transferred the title of my 85 from my son to me, I opted for the blue antique. nothing special, it's just one of the many plates available here in florida. this states has more different license plates available than you can shake a stick at. i'm guessing there are around a hundred or so of different license plates available. -

But since Michigan has no inspections or emissions testing, what's the hook or reasons for antique plates, given the "restriction" or limitations of use? Cost?

I have a personalized "Endless Summer" plate. I think I pay around $100 every year for it. The proceeds go to some kind of surfing foundation. I've never seen much surfing going on, so they have their work cut out for them. Anyway, it looks good on my triple white.
Apparently, there is an authenticated plate program. Does this mean I could scrounge an old 1988 and use that? The FL DMV site is not very informative and the search function brings back irrelevant results. I'll probably have to call them.

Here in Pennsylvania, a vehicle 25 or older qualifies for an Antique tag. No annual inspection, no yearly renewal. Plate has no bearing on insurance, as I carry normal insurance on all 3 of my antiques. Can’t use any of them as a DD, State has no way to enforce driving, they don’t track mileage. A LEO friend told me, just don’t use it all the time. In my area, there are load of car shows and cruises going on year-round. Never had a problem.

Well, mine just turned 30 this month. Does this mean I can only go to car shows now?

not sure about the old 88 plate. i'm thinking you can register it with the DMV for your at car and run it as any other plate. you would still have to pay the yearly licensing fees.

don't think there's any restrictions on "antique" plates - pretty much drive anywhere, anytime, much like any other plate. I have the blue antique, and my 85 is a daily driver -

You must
Provide a written statement that the vehicle will be used only for occasional transportation, parades, tours, exhibitions and club activities and not for personal use.

Historic Plates here in Maryland for my '93 Ruby. $51.00 for 2 years and no more dreaded emissions testing on the treadmill. MVA contractor would screw up my ASR every time. Wonder how long before they start charging more for Historic Tags than standard.

I'll have to give the DMV a call to see I can use an 88 plate.
Back in the 80s and 90s they had special Challenger plates you could order. I got one for the girfriend's Camaro back in the day.
