Years it takes for a stock C4 to appreciate?
Since I'm real close to getting my first C4, (most likely a 1989 convertible with manual trans) I was wondering how long most of you think it takes for C4s to actually start appreciating in value? This is assuming it's kept clean and in good running condition. I'll be keeping my first C4 for several years. I'd like to think that once a mostly stock, well maintained Vette hits 35 or 40 years old, it will appreciate in value. Thoughts?

Clarification
I should have clarified my question a little more. Assuming one buys a used and in good shape C4 for approx $11,000 to $14,000, when will (if at all) it ever start appreciating from that purchase price???

My Dad paid 9k in '06 for a good condition '86 Z51, 4+3, 69,000miles?. He always said "corvettes" always appreciate".
Sold it for 4,500 with 73,000 miles Last year.
If you want a return on a car most joe blows can mortgage their house on... Buy a 65-72 muscle car. even that is dying off.
bad move to buy ANY c4 and think it is going to make you money. If it works out good for you, but not likely based on data trends of the last 33 years of the c4.

Only cars with some rarity will see appreciation, I say the 96 GS will appreciate in coming years. An 1989 convertible with manual trans are a dime a dozen, if the only thing your thinking of is appreciation then you've already lost money.

Melting Slicks
The cars that will appreciate are not only in good condition, they are true stock survivors... if you are not familiar with NCRS or Bloomington Gold, you need to understand things like wiper blades can be brand new GM perfect condition but are a points deduction because they are not the factory ones. Original floor mats, original dated headlamps, glass, stickers, spark plug wires, air filter, tires, oil filter, fuel pump, light motors, dates codes, distributor stamps, brake booster tag , and build date..a lot of this gets replaced over the life of a car. The ones that will appreciate still have the originals.... likely having the OE one repaired or rebuilt instead of off the shelf replacements. They have original wheel locks in the factory bag.....the list never ends. Not trying to talk you out of the car, they are great, but don't put yourself in a situation that that is your investment.

Lesson Learned
So, after a few of your honest replies, it appears one must not count on any used Corvette purchase to appreciate unless it's a very rare model and/or a garaged 100% factor stock Vette with less than 1,000 original miles on it.

Youre wasting your time. In 35-40 yrs everything will be so old youll have to dump a ton in it to be right.
Just drive it, cars are not rolling bank accounts.
Cost of registration insurance basic maintenance..youre already losing.

I wouldnt expect any to appreciate for a very long time, aside from GS/ZR1s.

Even the ZR1's around my area are starting to see falling values, especially the earlier ones and ones that are not absolutely original, low mileage cars

^^ there are many Zr-1s out there collecting dust in garages with less than 1000 miles, the owners stillll waiting. Booze and women is money better spent for the return .
What so many forget it to appreciate there has to be a DEMAND. Wheres the line forming? Just cause it says Corvette doesnt mean its some collectible, even the C3s are still cheap.
Probably a Chevette forum out there too. Dont see many of these lol
