Default Project creep is going to bite me.

So the old LT1 quit running and as far as I can tell there is no spark, so I pulled the Opti to send off and have rebuilt. While I'm looking at that people tell me I should replace the water pump and Opti seals while it's apart. But then I start looking at seals and see a kit with all three seals and timing cover gasket, and I know this motor leaks from just about everywhere. But to do that I have to pull the crank hub and oil pan, and the valve cover gaskets look like they are leaking... So why not pull the engine and replace every seal and gasket, and hey, while the intake is off, I ought to swap cams too, and he'll it would be a good time to bolt some longtubes on...

Dammit man, how do you stop the madness? And how bad is it to get to the trans bellhousing bolts?

I think what I'll do is just get another lt1 to rebuild at leisure and then swap in.

I've drawn the short straw too many times after trying to limit a repair to only fixing what's broke...only to be going back in a short time later to fix/repair something I could have done the first time.

Tho I've never (yet) pulled a rebuild just for gaskets, but there's nothing like a rebuild/upgrade to put a permagrin on your face, and a feeling of confidence.

You're doing just fine. Remember that the car hobby is not just about driving the car.

Oh I know. I've been wrenching on cars for 25 years or so, mostly to keep them running Soni can get around. It's just gotten tiring always having a project to finish, especially one that's been 10years in the making. I recently moved and was tempted to leave a lot of tools and stuff behind and just take the basics.

We have all been there too. If you don't need the car as your DD sometimes it is best just to close the hood and walk away for a day/week/month. I have had some kind of project car for the last 20+ years, and I have done that from time to time when it just gets to be too much.
