I've had two C4 Corvettes and neither of them gave me any trouble at all. Granted they were both 1995 models with all the fixes and upgrades over the years of the C4 generation, and both had good service histories. Generally, the reliability depends on how the car was maintained and if/how it was stored. The drivetrains are pretty tough and can take a beating, but if they didn't get regular maintenance, that's what gives the gremlins a chance to creep in. And long-term storage done incorrectly can cause a slew of issues all over the car.

I do want to know why the OP's wheel bearings went out at 24k (or earlier).

I've had my 84 for 34+ years. I've gone through 4 motors, at least 6 trannies, I pull my heads every other year and my motor on years that I don't do the heads for a freshenup. What is wrong with my car?

Thanks. If I decide to part with it, I'll keep your offer in mind. lol

Well, the rear wheel bearings didn't actually go out.
Before I bought the car, I had the local Vette Shop (Drago's) do a PPI. On the to do list was the rear bearings. I questioned the need for new bearings at 23K miles with the owner. He said they weren't bad, but both sides did have some play in them and he likes to disclose everything he finds. When I got the car home I lifted the rear and there was a very little play....So, I threw new bearing assemblies at it just for peace of mind.

Did the factory bearings have a little play when this car was built or did they both just happen to wear evenly just a bit in 23K miles? I dunno, but I do know that I no longer have to worry about it...

My car has been great. Everything works perfect. Including the Bose cd. I take care very good care of it and at least so far, it seems to be taking care of me. I put a water pump on it a while back and some front shocks. I sealed the evap core to the case and replaced the o2 sensors. I replaced the plugs because I didn't want one seizing in the head since its 22 years old, but really its been a great car. I regularly drive it between Michigan and Texas, straight through, and its perfect for that sort of thing.

Hey, come to think of it....the CD player doesn't seem to work. So I guess that would count as a break down. Oh, and I had to rebuild the air pumps for the lumbar bladders...and the passenger side power seat is a little wonky. Good grief, I guess I am having break downs.
Now granted, my 93 has only 24K and change on it now. And I did have to put new FX3 rear shocks and rear wheel bearings on it. I also changed/flushed every fluid in the crazy thing, but when is the motor going to fall out of this Corvette???
We dont need your kind coming round here bragging about your reliable C4 !

Mine has been very reliable as well. We have the same color so that must be the reason!

Doubtful, regarding the backward wheels, that's what happens when someone with no clue (Ahhh that would be me) is allowed to put the wheels back on the car.

You're not the first & won't be the last but couldn't resist commenting. Your Polo vert looks to be in very good condition - enjoy.

i think i contribute alot to the 'broken' crowd but its no fault of the c4 platform . i seek out real cheap but running and complete c4's and rebuild/refurb them. along the way i find a lot of worn out parts from a lack of maintenance from a laundry list of deadbeat previous owners.

ii sure love seeing c4's in pristine original shape! thanks for posting OP!

140k on my C4. It has left me stranded, but that was because of letting upkeep items slip, and listening to the crowds who insist every issue is the optispark. With cats deleted from my PC, and regular upkeep, my c4 has been very reliable.

I thi k most of the issues run into here are from lack of upkeep. You may only have 60k on the car, but it's still 25 years old. Stuff still needs rebuilt or replaced.

I just got back to Mich from Tx. I drove my 95 car straight through 1300 miles. Some of the rain yesterday in Ak near Memphis was so hard that the water couldn't drain off the roads properly and you would hydroplane if you tried going over 50. Anyway, the car worked perfect, and I'm betting it will continue to work perfect.
