2 Small Hood Supports

I checked mine last year, a little hard to open but turned out to be good. I also had to unhook the scissors support to open the hood enough to ease disconnecting.
I did one thing not noted, I tied my hood to the garage rafter so it wouldn't drop by accident or go too far the other way.

Rock Auto does rock! Ordered the struts Tuesday the 19th received them Friday the 22nd. I felt that was pretty quick. Put them on last night. Took less than 45 minutes. Did have to unbolt the scissors support. Now it is easier to lift and closes much softer.
Thank everyone for all of the help and advise.

I ordered Stabilus brand from them but see they are not listed now. They do not help much until hood is up about halfway. Not impressed with the Stabilus brand. I even returned for replacement and the replacements were not any better. Can you describe how your work thru the motion of raising the hood?
I just looked again at Rock Auto and the show Sachs with the identical part number of the Stabulis, SG430011. I did a search and 3 brands are from the same manufacturer, Stabulis, ZF and Sachs. German based company but manufacture plants all over the world. My Stabulis were made in Mexico.

Which brand did you order?

I would say these don't help until the hood is about a 3rd of the way up but it made a huge difference because neither were operating before. You may want to check out adding the late model long strut. I believe I saw them listed too. Not sure where you would obtain or if you could fab the mounting hardware.

My 88 came with only one small strut. I replaced it last week end with a new one from Monroe. The hood now stays open without the long strut. So I guess only one might be enough? Your mileage may vary!

My small strut came today so I of course had to install it, have to hold on to the hood at a certain point when opening it or it takes off by it self.

My 88 35th Anniversary has 1 small strut on the passenger side and a big one on the drivers side. The big one is also pressurized. These are 100% original and how it came from the factory.
