California smog - cannot smog cars older than a 2000 model year
Wow, I went to get my 1993 Chevrolet Corvette ZO7 40th Anniversary (Ruby) LT1 6 Speed its biennial smog check and I was told by several stations that they no longer can do any car older than a 2000 model year. Their new machines will only do 2000 and newer model cars. I had a difficult time in finding a station that still had the older smog test analyzer. I wonder what will happen in 2 years if I try to get it smog again and no one no longer can do older cars than a 2000 model year. What are people suppose to do in that case. Is this a move to get rid of the older cars in California that are still required to be smogged? Of course my car did pass with flying colors.
Has anyone run across this situation?
Hopefully, I won't be here by that time. I'm just waiting to get my new house built in Arizona and I am out of this state.

Many people have a similar feeling about CA. So just stay out. We're already too crowded since we have wonderful beaches, mountains, deserts, sports and concert venues. Not to mention all the overpriced amusement parks too

In the San Fernando valley all of the smog stations I have visited have both systems still. But the last 3 times it barely passed, I think they are more concerned about the visual and leak down. I wonder.

Not true, they don't want to do the extra work.

i was wondering this very thing about c4's in cali as my wife and i have been visiting the area the past couple days. its gorgeous here for sure. the price to pay is forced upgrading and compliance by the looks of it. i can see why people pay that price.
one thing i was wondering is how are ls swapped c4's or other vehicles smog checked? Is it a nox and other chemicals measurement or is it a measurement specific to oem ratings? automatic fail if swapped vehicles or how do they handle that.
cuisinart, shouldnt u be able to find a gm correct part number on ebay?

Ensure all filters are clean, fresh gasoline, fresh oil and NO additives in the gasoline. If you add any additive to "clean" the catalytic converter, ensure you drive about 50-100 miles to get all the additives out of the tank for the test.
Ensure the catalytic converters are HOT when they test the Vette, drive it about 10-15 miles before you get to the smog shop.

I'm not trying to disrespect you or your state but, I would have to leave way before the first snowflake is formed and falls and/or the temps fall below 70 degrees. I need Corvette weather all year around. I think Arizona is a place for me.

Yup, need them guns!
Tx gun laws suck more. Tx citizens need MORE guns so they can:
Kill 26 people at the First Baptist Church in rural Sutherland Springs November 5, 2017
Kill 10 Santa Fe High School students southeast of Houston (and wounded at least 10 others) May 18, 2018
Kill eight people in a home in Plano, Texas, September 10, 2017.
Kill five police officers and injuring nine others in Dallas July 7, 2016
Just sayin' before you start throwing sh*t.....

Maybe its time to invest in some freshly rebuilt older smog equipment and licensing.
It would pay out in the first years before kali put a stop on those shops...

Sucks to hear. I couldn't live in a state that was so far up it's own as with regulation. But I guess that happens when you build all your cities in valleys with sea breezes pushing everything against mountains.
If I ever get to be old or pansy to not handle mild NC winters, I'd go back to FL, or to GA or SC. No draw for Cali for me, despite the seeming ideal combination of geography.
