Default Insurance and the state of Michigan

I am baffled. I went online and also called an independent insurance agent looking for insurance quotes from Hagerty for my 96 Corvette. Both quotes were higher that what I pay now, in the $800 range. I hear so many talk about lower insurance rates and in the state of Michigan because I drop my liability every winter I have to go to a secretary of states office to renew my plates. It a pain in the butt because 2 of the women are real bi#c#es and I hate the close to one hour wait time.
Anyone else with a newer C4 with Hagerty getting decent rates? I didn't even put 700 miles on my Vett last year.
I wanna save a few buck, help!!!

Collector plates here on the 92. Must have a daily driver too, otherwise no restrictions. One time license fee of $75. MCM, full coverage for the year, agreed value ($11,000), limited to 6,000 miles per year and must be stored in garage .............. $250.

With my Hagerty policy it's just easier to leave full coverage on all year.

I have Hagerty. 10k guaranteed value. It's under $400 a year. Think the mileage limit is 5k a year.

No, I did the online quote. It did not give me any restriction on mileage, so I am thinking that I didn't get the "classic" car cost, or the fact that its only 22 years old.
The local independent agent could not say why it was so high. I am 63 with clean history, no tickets or accidents.

I just ended a chat with their online people and they told me the newer years tends to have a higher claim rate. That and not having historic plates is the reason the quote is so high.
Well no kidding, less of the older cars on the road...

@ The op ...lol what are you even talking about. Michigan has some of the highest auto insurance rates in the entire country. You can thank Wayne county.

Everybody talks about how much they save with Hagerty... They quoted me $818 for 1 year $500 deductible where my Auto Owners is $660 with full glass and $250 deductible. I even get some of this back because I drop Liability for a few months.
Where is the savings that Hagerty offers?

If you are not from Michigan I would not even respond because our rates are so high here there is no comparison.

To the OP, you do NOT have to go to the secretary of state every time you put your car in storage for the winter. I have State Farm IN MICHIGAN and have been doing this for over 30 years. My 67 435 and my 95 ZR-1 are regularly put into storage at storage rates and taken out for the driving months at higher rates. I probably pay $1400 per year for the two cars.

I thought I heard in the past that MI was a no fault state. Our rates are lower in the Chicagoland part of Illinois and I don’t know how that happened since we pay higher rates for just about everything else.

$900 a year for my ‘94 here on the edge of Wayne County. My record is clean but I do have a teen driver in the house.
