What's Your MPG?

Really tho, the only way to check gas mileage is ye ol' miles driven/gallons consumed. The instant readout only gives you an instantaneous value. The "average" reading is somewhat closer IF you zero your trip mileage before the test begins. But, even then, the manual method is still the most accurate way to really get an idea - for that day.
I have been able to get over 30 quite a few times on stretches of interstate.
But when you factor in the entire trip, is when you get your "real" mileage.
Doing a 50 - 100 mile trip and observing your mileage is nice and all, but you likely won't average that for an entire year.
Here is what mine did on the last long trip I calculated fuel mileage. Just did it to see the results.
You can also see the reason I racked up so many miles on mine. Did 10 straight tours like this. LOL
2011 Power Tour. Left Rolla, MO and drove to Cocoa Beach, FL.
Did the Power Tour all the way to Detroit (7 cities in 7 days), then all the way back home again. Total of 3,637 miles.
PS: My driving trips pale in comparison to another member here though.

Bought my '93 last January, haven't reset the average MPG readout since getting the car. Currently it reads 20.3 mpg.
