Burning Brakes
Landfill in my neck of the woods accepts oil for disposal. You have to leave your containers. They have no place you can just dump it. No tests, usually no talking to anyone about it, just leave it where their sign is.

My county-run marina facility has this problem from time to time. When a major contamination occurs, the local throw-away magazine for the marina puts a blurb in it to try and educate the public and perhaps even the offender. Because I use and APPRECIATE the facility, I do my best to not contaminate my drain oil. Coolant gets used for weed killer, and brake fluid (I don't generate much) gets put in qt containers and put in the "recycle bin" for regular trash pick up.
A few years back, the paper mentioned a "large quantity of hydraulic oil" had contaminated the facility, and the county was threating to shut it down. I work on boats and yachts, and I know when the seiner season is underway. There are several seiner boats in the marina, and I know some of the skippers. I was at the facility shortly after this contamination notice, and one of the skippers was dumping 5 gallon buckets of AW32 after working on his boat. I told him about the notice, and he responded "I saw that. They called it "brake fluid". This is hydraulic oil"". shows the intelligence of seiner captains, I told him AW 32 was the same thing, and a contaminate. I asked him to stop because neither of us would benefit if the facility was shut down. He continued to pour.
When I was back in my truck, I dropped a dime on him to the reporting number on the sign at the facility for "to report illegal dumping". I told them the name of the boat the AW 32 came from. I never heard what happened, but the facility is still open. For now.

You would think he would appreciate the facility.
In my situation, I would filter all of this oil if that's what I needed to do. I just want it handled responsibly.

One of the few good things about kali is the availability of waste oil disposal.
But it has to be clean. Can't be mixed with other oils. Cant have flammable liquids like gas mixed in. Some won't take trans oil.
And I've driven through places where DIYers pull the drain plugs over a sewer or storm drain.

I would check with other local auto repair see what there doing. There sre some dealers and businesses to help keep them low on the EPA haz mat generator classification who are unadvertised recievers. What are you using to store it in? 5 gallon buckets?. 55 gallon barrels maybe able to just drop them off. 100 gallons is going to be a hassle. If you're shop was" on the books" it's a write off. It also depends on the amount contamination also. If it has high concentration of coolant would make hard to get rid of. What are you doing with used coolant that is hazardous waste? Waste oil has been exempted since it is recyclable and keeps auto shops from falling into Major Generator category. I knew a few businesses used it as heating oil. Salvage yard may take it. If you know other techs maybe they can help you 5 gallon bucket at a time at their shop. In Va our bulk oil supplier picked up waste oil. A different contractors pick up everything else. We were a unadvertised reciever to keep from being a major generator. Good luck.

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. We have 3 parts stores within 5 minutes and all three will take it.
O'reilly has me log it on a sheet of paper and dump it myself. Autozone takes the jug at the counter and brings it back empty.
Both have a 5 gallon a day limit but don't have a problem with trans fluid being in with the oil. Just no coolant.
As far as coolant, ADEM recommends pouring it in cat litter and putting in regular trash.
We also have a couple of county hazmat days a year. They take oils, paints, parts cleaner, pesticides.

If you have a pickup clean off your 5 qt oil container and leave it in the back. Someone will steal it thinking they scored.

Lol … Im certain you are right, but the same jackhole that would steal a gallon of oil would also dump it in the river, or on the ground, so that's out.

Used oil (motor, transmission, Power steering, mineral) gravity filtered down to 10 microns, ran thru a homemade centrifuge, with rare earth magnets along each step, then diluted in 4 to 1 ratio with diesel, which I then pour in my 7.3L powerstroke's fuel tank. Engine even runs quieter.
