I feel my offer is reasonable (rant)
Hey yall, spotted a really nice comp yellow 93 6 speed on autotrader in NC. Car is priced at 14.4k. 22k miles. Shot them an offer of 11k, which I think is fair considering the market for C4s. It has also been sitting for over 2 months now. Sales manager gives me a call and says he wont sell it for 11. He goes on to say how they have already dropped the price from 17 grand, says it is a “collectors” car. They list it as having the 40th anniversary package, which it does not. Why does every dealer think all 93s are anniversary cars just because they have 40th embroidered on the headrest? Hell, I bought my 91 ZR-1 for 17k with 36k miles! I just cant justify spending over 15k after fees and tax on a base c4, no matter how clean it is. 11k imo is a very solid offer.

That’s the problem. Dealers on auto trader list these cars for crazy money imo. Tons of low mileage lt1s in the upper teens range. I just dont think they are worth that. Sure, they can LIST them for that price, but they wont sell for it. You could practically get a nice Z in that range. The problem with pricing c4s for that kind of money youre getting into nice c5 territory, even decent z06 money.

So the saleshole said they dropped the price from 17K to 14K? Maybe that's because nobody wanted to pay that much and explains why it has sat for a couple months. While there were only 517 cars produced in that color, that doesn't make them a "collector" car or a rare car. Is the car at a Chevy dealer? If not, that could explain why the sales guy thinks its a 40th Anniversary car.and doesn't have the correct color and interior.
Assuming the car is in decent condition and a Carfax report doesn't show anything bad, consider taking a trip to the dealer and bring along $11K in cash. Wave that under his nose and see what he does. If he doesn't take it, wave your cash at him and start walking out. I would think that for a car that has sat on the lot for that long, the dealership would want to move the car.

The "Collectors Series" C4's are a joke. 35th, 40th, 1996 CE... No value in these.
Yet the salesmen will use anything to move the price up.
A "look-at-me" yellow 93?
I'd pass and start browsing for a 95-6.

Imo the market is not dictated by listing prices. Instead, I think it is dictated by what the cars actually sell for. I just simply refuse to pay over 15k when it’s all said and done for a base LT1. Now an LT4, I would most likely buy for that price with around the same mileage.

11k is a solid offer - I would keep looking as I think 11k should buy a good C4 and probably an actual collector or special edition/packaged one like an LT4/CE with average miles.
I bought my 94 with 46k miles for less than that about 4 years ago, cash offer but accepted nonetheless so I would think good deals would be out there. I had to drive about 1.5hrs for mine but it was worth it.

Comparable cars are C4 Corvettes with similar miles, condition, and options.
These cars are are selling at auction, to the highest bidders, in clean, very nice examples for $6 -$10 K every day...Hell C5’s are selling for $10K - $12 K in base model trim in great condition. They haven’t bottomed out yet either. No need to show anyone anything other than turn your television on to the next Mecum auction and watch C4’s sell...pretty low!

I just find it bizarre that the sales manager was complaining about it sitting on the lot, and that they were gonna have to do something with it, but didn’t take my offer. I was going to pay fully in cash, they had a buyer right there in front of them ready to take it off their hands. He didnt even give me a counter offer. Either they are set on the price or they will give me another call soon. Well see.

If you don't like the price and you made an offer he didn't accept move on. You don't know what he has in it. That is normally a factor what he will sell it for.

Wait a spell and see if it sells. Fall is on the way. If it's still for sale at the end of the month, show up with cash. Offering over the phone means little to a dealer.
