Remember 15 years ago when it seemed everyone’s dream car here was a ‘99 c5 FRC ..why

It's close enough to the ZR-1. Probably the reason why the ZR-1 can still beat it in some regards.
I was talking about comparing the ZR-1 to new cars, such as for example the new ZR-1 or any other new performance car, which is what I thought you were talking about when you said the ZR-1 is not a big deal now. The C5 Z06 is basically 15 years old. That's not "now".

Surely fun is subjective. Some like to have it easy others like to be challenged for example. This is the reason I much prefer driving a Lotus Elise over a Cayman. The Cayman will obey me and do everything I ask and that is boring. The Elise will too but not be so nice about it. It's more of a riot to drive it. This is what I look for in a sports car. In a track I absolutely want efficiency. But on the road character is way more important. Also fun has to do with the looks of the car itself. If you like to sit behind the C5's dashboard and find it a cool and nice place to be then it's fine for you. For me I find it so boring. It looks like a hundred other 90's cars. It reminds me of a Honda somehow. If you like the exterior of the C5 and all the rounded edges you will surely have more fun in one. I sure don't like the melted down look. I find it too blend. Truly a case of to each his own.

Naturally a Hurracan will mop the floor with an old ZR-1 or even a C6 and C7 not called ZR1. But this a a SUV.
It's faster than even a C7. But it's a SUV!
A 5000lb monster. It seems it handles very well as well. Seems like it would out handle an old ZR-1 and a lot of new sports cars too.
A sign of the times I guess. I expect an older sports car to be shamed by modern sports cars. Nothing wrong or surprising about that really. But this a a SUV!!!
I know, it costs like $200K. But after that I'm not sure I want to look at other cheaper sports SUV performance numbers.

I'm disappointing when I see this too. Back in the day, you made a sacrifice for performance. At one time, it was comfort, reliability (especially with Italian cars) etc, then it was mostly just practicality; a C4 wasn't as practical as an '80's Blazer, Suburban or Cherokee...but it sure was a rocket ship compared to them....so, worth it to have the 'Vette (Camaro, 300z, whatever). But now you can have it all in one appliance. A Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, The new Lambo...and others....they really take away from the case for having a proper sports car. I like sports cars and I don't love that poeple can buy a car now that gets groceries, goes off road (sort of), goes in snow, carries bikes, skis, and a canoe, and holds 5 people....and makes my sports car obsolete on the track to boot. Technology has given us "everything"...and that makes "special things" less special.

Although even with all the technology I think there is no real replacement for light weight. It's a different driving experience. I think this will be what might keep sports cars somewhat relevant. But only the light weights ones I guess. Given that most modern sports cars weight as much as an elephant, sport SUVs might take some of the market.
